Tuners

Starting place is not typically critical other than, I do not suggest bottomed out. I suggest mine be from 1/2to a full turn out from bottomed but you really should talk with the maker of yours.

fwiw, if your threads are 32tpi and your tuner has 40 marks around it, each mark is less than a thou. Actually, it calculates to .00078125.
Simply divide 1 by 32. That gives .03125. Divide that by the number of marks. So, .03125/40=.00078125 per mark
D'oh, I've been in a brain fog with a cold. Yes the calculations look better now, lol!

Thanks!

Every tuner is a little different. Even the two cf models I make are very different. The 5oz model requires the tuner to be moved about 3 - 3-1/2 times as far to get the same affect to group shapes as my standard 7oz tuner does. So, to keep it simple for me to explain, I changed the mark values on the lighter model to 10 marks vs 32 on the standard tuner. That way I can still tell customers to move 1 number value at a time for both, without things getting complicated. Who'd a thought that 2ozs difference would make that much difference?

So yes, every tuner is different and until you know the value on the target of any incremental change of the tuner, ya really got nothin in regard to methodically keeping it in tune. I mean, if ya don't know what a move should do, wouldn't moving it just be a guess?

Hopefully you can see the marks in this pic of both.

Welll...Three of my posts in this thread were deleted as being hostile. I think the thread has been a good one and I don't even know which three were deleted, or for what. I can only guess 1 of them but I feel it was an appropriate response, but it's not my call. I'm owed no explanation but if I can't even guess the other two, I'm left wondering what I can say at all. I'm guessing someone cried but, just a guess. It's not worth going back and looking to me. What's done is done and it's it's not my site to say.

It's your sparkling personality Mike!
Some people just can't deal with it when they are presented with facts.
I learned a long time ago that if you argue with physics your gonna get smacked in the head with an apple.
Just saying...
By the way the last ones you shipped will be here Tuesday, thanks for getting them out.

I saw no cursing or name calling in any of your posts
The Site Boss has openly stated
"He does not allow Idiots on this forum,"
I saw one calling a person out which I found completely appropriate and is sometimes needed
and should be allowed within abiding by the Site Bosses rules

I posted this story a few years ago on here. It's a good read, I think.

had you seen how the hornady guys were using the tuner its easy to see why it did not work

FWIW, I'm a dispassionate observer, I'm not a BR shooter and don't own a tuner so I'm not challenging what you're saying, as a non-user I'm just interested to know what specific procedures they did or didn't do that invalidated their experiments?

Long story short... They tested them the way they wanted them to work. It didn't work that way, because it doesn't work that way.

Nope, you definitely cannot turn the tuner complete rotations and expect to see much usefulness in that. And, if I understand correctly they did not try to work with the best rifle and/or components nor try to do a load work-up first which will never validate the use of a tuner.

I can tell you this from experience, a rifle completely out of tune with a tuner shoots worse than a non-tunered rifle out of tune. It's sounds counterintuitive but that is actually a good thing. I would like to hear if anybody else has seen this.
I believe it. Instead of being in the upswing for positive compensation, on the downswing to accentuate deviations.

I actually agree with this statement and have documented a similar response… personally I’m glad its violent out of tune… this is how my best barrels react with out a tuner involved… 2 of the 3 barrels I’ve opted for a tuner to just see if I could clean up garbage results for 5 shots we’re not violent when in a moment of movement… the Tuners developed more reaction between spots of good…
