Tuner Adjustments

Does anyone know if the tuner should be moved in or out with respect to changes in velocity? I know they work, but want to avoid wasted rounds before a match. My Labradar can tell me the change, but not which way to move the tuner.

For what’s it worth, I tweak my tuner every time I shoot and gave away my chronograph years ago. Mike E, what’s your input?

Rule of thumb is (for what it's worth) When the temp (and velocity) go's down, move the tuner out. Down and out. Move it in when temp and/or velocity go's up. And as always, YMMV.

Question
Is this for a tuner behind the muzzle or in front of the muzzle

I used a large radial brake from Harrells and threaded the bare section and a matching clamping shaft collar to form a tuner, so it is technically behind the muzzle, but on the brake.

My answer is what I do with an Ezill tuner on the front of the barrel.

The reason I asked was I read some where or was told that each tuner type was different. So basically the direction you turned the tuner was different. Before muzzle went one way and after muzzle went the other.

Thanks for the info

I’m using Gene Beggs tuners and tuning according to DA, density altitude. This is a compilation of values of air density, altitude, humidity, and temperature. I’m not smart enough to compile all those figures so I use a Kestrel 5000. As the DA goes down I move out and in on rising DA. We keep notes and refer to our little black books to check on DA, tuner setting, and results when we set the tuner in the past.

Someone posted about threading for barrel tuners. Every one of my barrels that is still shooting well has an Ezell tuner. This way I don’t have to change the threading. Here are two different thread options. Your gunsmith can thread your barrels to fit the Ezell tuner. Mike can also send you specs.
