Tuned TX200 springer is back......

Congratulations on getting the Springer shooting so smoothly. TX200 is top tier and so much fun it doesn't seem real at times. One tip from my Springer days, lay the rifle's forearm loosely in your palm with the back of your hand laying on the front bag. Then free recoil is your friend. Another tip is to learn to place only the pad of your thumb on the back of the wrist of the stock and as inline with your trigger finger as possible/comfortable. Then focus on even pressure in squeezing the two together.


One last tip : check all of your screws, scope and action, frequently. Very frequently to begin with and then back off a little, but not much. Any time you get two or three fliers, stop and check your screws.

John Thomas tuned a HW98 for me. Very noticeable difference in it’s behavior for the better.
It’s due for a reseal. Time to give him a call.

Well, you might be right but that's is my goal.I shoot center fire free recoil and am very close to it with the springer. I do shoot off different bags with a different filler. Only my left hand lightly touches the pistol grip. Other than that I set it up just like I do a center fire bench gun.I started this after reading numerous posts on airguns forums saying the TX200 comes from the factory tuned. Nothing could be further from the truth.If you have not shot one properly tuned you have no idea the difference. I realize why pcps and springers are seperated, that is part of why I do not have interest in a pcp. When tested by the tuner he shot pretty much a small hole at 35 yards. It's a challenge, I will keep you posted.

A springer is as a springer does. Pcps are easier to shoot accurately, but the power supply is a pain in the butt.

I have found my TX since I had it tuned is a totally different animal. Yes, despite what I have read they do need tuned properly. My advice if you buy one is just get it shipped right to a tuner, I used John Thomas, and when you get it, it will be what you really wanted. Yes, pre tuning there would have been hair pulling moments but that horse left the barn 40 years ago, lol.

Much quiter than a .22. I currently shoot in a 25 yd indoor range and with muffs I can hardly hear it. I would see no reason to do anything else. Much quieter than my Benjeman/Remington nitros piston I have.

Thanks. I have 40’ of basement for indoor shooting and 45 yards I can shoot in backyard. Great neighbors, but I don’t want to make them unduly nervous with irritating gunfire.

The Vortek PG4 spring kit made a big difference in mine, the shot cycle is much smoother with no vibration or buzz. I shoot mine laying across a Bulls bag, not in the notch but across it. The trigger on mine was very rough, the bottom sear looked like a wash board. Some work with a stone smoothed it up nicely.

Great air rifle. I opted for an HW97k, but it was a difficult choice between that and the TX200. Although it will never replace my powder burners, it's backyard friendly and gets used a lot more often than the Savage and the 1911s.

Just ordered an HW 97K from Krale in the. Netherlands. Less than $500 shipped, MUCH less than anyone here in the states.
If Krale carried Air Arms, I would have ordered the TX200 from them. I’ll get my feet wet with this one and eventually move up to the AA if springer shooting agrees with me.

Anxious to start learning all about them. As far as mounting a scope goes, I have a brand new Riton 6-24x50 that’s air gun rated. Do you think Burris Signature Zee rimfire rings will suffice to secure it - or will I need something more substantial?

It sits in the hole in the top of the receiver made for that purpose positioned rearward so the ring does not slide backwards from the double recoil of a springer. I don't remember the brand name. He just said here are a pair of the best airguns rings made. He is my old archery buddy, we often give each other items we no longer need that the other has a use for. But, give what you have a try, if they don't slide you will be ok.

I may have a set or two of rings like that myself. I try to use the Sig Zees exclusively as I can use the inserts to keep my scope optically centered + mark free.
I'll come up with something. Hopefully Krale ships to me as quickly as they have done for everyone else.

I don't think a TX200 will be a move up from the 97, lateral move maybe. HW97's are very good rifles.

Good point, I really shouldn’t have phrased it that way. Read many, MANY reviews on both guns today. What sold me on the HW was saving somewhere around $250 by ordering from Krale.

You will probably like it AFTER you get it tuned. I agree with justinp61 that a TX200 would only be a lateral move. The Weihrauch is a very nice German air rifle. One option for tuning is Airgunwerks in Tennesee. David Slade was factory trained at some of the top manufacturers in England. When I got my HW97 back from him the difference was night and day. Smoother shot cycle and the trigger is very good now.
