tumble media

What do you use for tumbling brass in a vibrating tumble machine ? I have been using corn cob for the last few yrs. Where do you get a substitute for corncob media (not walnut) ? I had heard that pet shops sell something like it and cheaper.
Thoughts ?
Thanx again

Google is your best friend

Google "corn cob media"

You will see prices from $88.00 for 30 lbs to $12.99 for 4.5 lbs.

The pet stores sell lizard litter that is walnut shell.

I paid $19 for a 46 liter bag of corn cob media from Amazon. Let me tell ya ... a 46 liter bag is huge, 40 lbs, and will last you a long, long time. In other words, unless you have a couple of friends to share with, don't buy this size bag. The weird thing with Amazon is you can buy the same media in a bag half the size for twice the price. :o

If you have a Thumlers Tumbler Mod B preferrably with high speed motor stainless steel is the way to go. One time buy, lasts forever.

Lizzard Litter from PETCO. It's ground walnu hulls , great stuff without adding anything. Available in 2 different sizes.

Over the years, I have had very good luck with oil well "Drilling Mud". It is actually crushed walnut shells. I get a 40# or 50# bag very reasonably. The part that I like is that the granules are smaller than the flash hole in the case. I use a Dillon case separator and have not had a clogged flash hole ever. I admit that my brass would not blind you with brilliance, but it is clean and nicely bright. One other lesson I have learned is that in the nice weather, I can use it outside on the back porch. It just needs to be over 65 degrees, so most of the time I have to use it in doors.
That has been my personal experience FWIW
