Tumble media as never before

Here is a pic of once fired brass that just came out the tumbler. Still has dust on it but what do you think of the cleaning. Will post what I used after some comments have been posted. AND you will never would of thought of it.

Did it look like that before it got tumbled? :confused:Just sayin! We need a before pic.
I've been wanting to try beach sand. I have a lot of it around and it's free.
Serious guess: You saw the "rice" thread. No, that can't be it. You don't have any kernels sticking out of your primer pockets.o_O

I tried beach sand years ago. I was too abrasive.
edit: I am, but so was the beach sand!

Kitty litter? New or used?

Coffee grounds?[/QUOTE]
Same question.

Been tumbling for 4 years almost. Had the same media in tumbler for 2 1/2 years. Wanted to try the tumbler out when I got it so i used some of my Dumor Layer Feed Crumble chicken food. Cost about $13 for 50lbs at Tractor Supply. Does a good enough job. Will get a before pic next time but brass was dirty range.

Looks OK. Are the primer pockets cleaner? Looks like a hint of factory annealing color on the neck area. No problem it's cosmetic. Try it on some darker colored range pickup brass. SS pins would remove the anneal color and inside carbon. Indicating it's a little more aggressive.

Yah know I was thinking of asking if'n it were chicken grit... probably too much like beach sand though.

With the feed blend the grit's a small percentage (crushed oyster shell?)... makes me wonder if sawdust with a bit of beach sand wouldn't work well....

I was never more pissed than the time I tried rice.

The only thing I used rice for was removing moly from a bunch of moly coated bullets I bought (cheap). Worked really well. Just remember to throw it out when done as rodents seem to like it.

And you thought you had a lot of rat turds BEFORE they ate that lube??!!!

I tumble with spent primers still in.
