Tulsa Without Power

At least you're just visiting DFW on the weekends.
I live here and the streets aren't getting any maintenance. I would be happy if they put some stripes on the road.
I think all the money being spent on roads is going towards the highway projects that never end and the construction of toll roads.
I pray you folks get your power back on soon.
LOL...I meant half of DFW shows up HERE every weekend!!! Agreed...money being spent in wrong places
thanks, they are working hard on it

Where I live power outages are a way of life. DTE has a really bad infrastructure. We will get outages for far too many reasons.

Too hot
Ice storms
Severe wind
Thunder storms
Tornados
Cat sneezes

A generator here is a must have. Oh and I live in county with 1.3 million people. It doesn't get too hairy. Maybe because it's hairy all the time?

Edit to mention..

The generator we have is your normal lowes purchased portable gas Jenny. It's enough to run the fridge, charge batteries for phones and flashlights, run an extension cord for misc.

The WORST is winter outages. Ice storms, 30 degrees out and it takes days to get power back. Meanwhile unless you have a whole house ($3k+professional installation) generator, your our furnace is not going to be on and it's a race against time for the water in your pipes.
must be one helluva CAT!!!:D:D:D

I used to live in Richardson. At least Dallas has parts of it where the infrastructure is impeccable. Of course it has its really rough parts too. But Tulsa doesn't have any impeccable parts anymore. My fiance and I will drive through some of the fanciest neighborhoods in the whole city and the roads are like going on a 4x4 trail ride.
yeah, crumbling infrastructure, gotta be trumps fault!!!
it is horrible. maybe move to Jenks or owasso???

If I move it's going to be out of Oklahoma. There are too many escapees moving here for me. 2,600 dispensaries. Not really the place I want to be.

I don't know about Trump but certainly the people that Trump works for are the cause. I have no doubt about that.

yeah...idk if it gets any better...

I find it hypocritical that people complain about people fleeing other countries and the problems there wanting to live in the US, yet people in the US are fleeing the problems of one state to live in another.

Pot, meet the Kettle.

I'm not sure that's the same thing at all. But honestly I have no dog in that fight.

I think maybe people ought to stay where they are and fix their own problems instead of bringing their problems to someone else. I don't care if they come from another country or another state. Fleeing your home because you're too scared to fix the problems in your community so you can go and infect another community with your problems, is the problem.

That's exactly what I meant.

Uhggg , I hate that.... In 2023 we can't even keep the lights on.... Stay cool , here in central Texas their forecast is for 120 degree heat index today and tomorrow..... I pray they get the power back on ASAP....
Are you willing to pay for a system that almost never goes out? Electricity has become a right or something, like Obama phones. People don’t understand what goes into it, how vulnerable they may be depending on the electrical system that they use. Of the things that are extremely messed up in 2023, to me, reliable electrical services are a little ways down the list.

Nobody wants to be out of power, but cmon. And, people kinda historically migrated with the advent of a/c, meaning how many people are In phoenix now compared to 1946, and why?? Don’t worry, soon it will be such an issue and so many will be crying that the only entity that can step in and save the day is the gov.

People are interesting and consistent.

I have a 20kw standby generator with automatic transfer.
I ask the local natural gas distributor what happens when the electrical power goes out at the pumping station.
He said that the pumps are powered from generators that run on the same natural gas.
The electricity for the pumping station is powered by the same generators.
That's what he said.
Can anybody confirm or deny?

For me it's a lifeline.... I must have A/C because of health problems...as soon as I get where I am going I will have a back up installed along with a very large propane tank....

In 1998 we here is ME suffered through 8 days without power as the result of a massive ice storm that descended on us from Quebec.

We had frozen food, a big vermont castings wood stove and plenty of seasoned wood. We drew our water from the lake we lived on. NBD. I certainly understand the concern of folks who are medically affected. Since then, we have installed solar and have a backup generator. Nothing approaching that storm has occurred since. Yes, some two and three day outages but those are easy. One has to learn from the past, think about recurrences and plan accordingly. It's not like most of us don't know the weather events that can negatively affect us....can we? If you live in areas with outage history, you had better think about your home food supply too.

I was thinking those very things. I doesn't help to have a gas stove if your fridge is dead and your food is spoiled.
With a gas stove you can cook and eat what you shoot with your reliable, infallible 19th century technology firearm. And cook your stored non-perishable foodstuffs. That 50-lb bag of dried beans comes handy.

I've been biting my tongue but I might as well say it. If things are too bad for too long over a widespread area be prepared for those will come looking to take whatever you have by force.

Very unpleasant to think about and I hope I never see it personally but it'll happen sooner or later.

One side effect of this thing I had not thought about was the fact that in the scarier parts of town people are completely in the dark. There was some kind of firefight last night at the apartments to the east of my house.
Tulsa has scary parts of town? Who knew?

What is the hel7 UR? "But certainly the people that Trump works for."
Any evidence here? Proof? Oh wait. none required in an "anti-Trump world!" Keep lapping up that Kool-Aid.. Tastes soo sweet or is it bitter?
