Tube Gun Question

Another dumb Question on F/TR rifles
Can you use a tube gun to shoot in the F/TR class-1000yd
It would seem that if you can it might be easier to keep cooler on long strings or hot days.

No stoopid questions, only stoopid answers..

Yep, see alot of Tubes use in F/tr... Would love to have one...

Google "The Riflemans Journal" and you read German Salazar's exploits with F/TR and he is kind of a Tube shooting guru..

Rod

I use an Eliseo R1 with , of course my action made just for Eliseo...

Tracks great and shoots very well. I do use a medium Palma contour...

Not seen any effects of heat on 20 round strings and I tend to shoot fast when conditions are good.

This platform is very adjustable to fit you...

Give Gary a ring , he will be very helpful....

German has done very well with his F-T/R tube gun, even as he curses under his breath because it cannot be a .30-'06. ;)

OK now that I know we can use a tube gun, which cought my eye the first time I saw one what do you think would be some of the advanatges with the tube gun.
I would think one advanatge would be the ability to adjust the fit better to the shooter.
Can they handel the weight of a long (30") barrel and still be stable.

Yes, they are stable. I have an Eliseo RTM LA that has a 31" Bartlein MTU contour .308 barrel. It shoots very well, especially with Gary's new bipod. (see picture) The bipod resists barrel torque well because its pivot point is the barrel axis. My rifle is a little heavy with a Nightforce but makes weight with a lighter scope. I ordered a new LV barrel for it that will make weight at 30". [br]
As for fit, I really don't bother with any of that and do not even use the cheek piece. It concerns some other folks more than it does me. Each to his own.

Thanks Fellas,
I am now reading all the German Salazar stuff I can find.
Are tube guns more or less costly on average than the average F/TR rifle.

Likely a bit less depending on choice of which traditional stock and accessories. I built a Palma rifle last year & figured I saved ~ $800 but then a traditionally stocked Palma rifle uses stuff not often found on an F-TR rig: trigger guard, adjustable butt plate & cheek rest, maybe a 'bridge' sight rail you can hang an aperture sight onto, etc.

I don't shoot F-TR so maybe my opinion's off base but I'd venture that adjustability is more important for a sling shooter? German might well weigh in here, he's done both & done well besides!

I know it says most handy guys can put the action into the "tube" but Im assuming that you will still have to have a gun smith mount the barrel to action?

I just finished a tube gun for F-OPEN.

I used one of Pierce's Tube Gun action's and I'm extremely pleased with it. The .284 barrel has a 1.25 to 1" taper. .The gun weighs 19.2 pounds. The 6.5x47 barrel is a MTU. The gun weight is 17.8. Both barrels are 30". I used the RTS chassis with a Nightforce NXS.

I had the action glued and bolted in.

The gun is very comfortable to shoot and extremely adjustable.

If you use the R1 and Eliseo's bipod you should have no problem making weight.
