Tubb firing pin in Mod 70?

Theories aside, this has been proven by many people. Its not really something that is debatable. Tony Boyer/Dwight Scott, Jim Borden, Jerry Stiller, are a few that I know have done the testing.

You need to read my posts. I am not stating that light pin is better. The reasons why is where I disagree. I have read Tonys book. He also talks about harmonics (vibration)
I also never said that SD wins matches. I was just backing myself up with Facts

Lighter pin might have a tendency to bounce? More vibration
The heavy pin may transmit less vibration after it stops. I am not sure.
Not many confirmed studies have been conducted. I am not knocking what has
been shown on paper. I just don't see how strike force (fast or slow)
is going to effect primer brisance. The primer either goes or it doesn't.
There is more to ignition then the primer going off. Matt

I not, Than why can you get single digit extreme spreads with a speed lock.
Single digit extreme spreads is not always the best group, especially at long distamce. Most of the guns I have tested shot better groups at 1000 yards with loads that produced bigger ES. I have had guns that shot 2 and 3 ES and wouldn't shoot under 13 inches, all vertical at 1000 yards. The same guns with extreme spreads of 10 to 15 with other loads would shoot 10 shot groups of 4 inches or less. Mstt

I know most serious short range BR guys take a new BAT action and have Dwight Scott or Dave Bruno tune them. They put a tungsten weight on the firing pin. It just makes them shoot better and way more consistent at 100 yards. Now if it makes a noticeable difference with a PPC at 100 yards it would make a difference in other bench guns. I also know a guy that shot an 80 pound heavygun at 1000. The gun shot really well. The first match of the following year I was on his target. He shot and was not a pretty target, not near what the gun should have shot. I came back and asked him what he changed and he said nothing. Same bullets, powder and primers. 5 minutes later he came up to me and said he got a new lightweight firing pin and spring. I told him to take it out and put the old one in. He put the old one in and shot it again and it returned to what it was before. That is just one of a bunch of guns I saw do this.

I also saw a bunch of guns go vertical or not be able to be tuned no matter what they tried. They put in a new firing pin spring and the gun came alive. Seen that, dozens of times. Ask any top gunsmith who builds winning BR rifles and most of them know fire control is important. A famous gunsmith told BAT that his ignition wasn't good. All the new ones have a fatter firing pin in them to make them heavier and guide them better. Matt
