Trying to make the choice between....

I'm in the market for a new scope for my 6mm Norma Dasher. I've considered them all, and I have picked out 2 (and these are the only 2) that I'm interested in. Curious if any one on the site has had both, shot both, or had the chance to look through both scopes and had any feedback on good/bad features, glass, focus, etc. I know in today's world $2000.00 isn't top money, but it's my limit. I'm not interested in used, or adding 2 hundred and getting this or that. This will be for bench work out to 600 on steel, and 1k on paper....Ok, the Sightron SVSS 10-50 moa, or the Trijicon Ten mile 10-50 moa. Each one can be bought for +/- 50 dollars of the other and each has slightly different features, turret lock, zero stop, etc , so looking for likes and dislikes of each. Thank you for any time you take in responding, I'm really in the middle on these....rsbhunter

I own the Trijicon 10-50. It is a nice scope for the money and mine has been solid. I did a box test when I got it and it was very close. (don't remember exactly)
The only con is it's ability to resolve through mirage but in it's defense my Minox didn't do much better.
300 yard F class target north Florida. ( The best I tried that day was a March 42 fixed )
I am hoping to try the SVSS ED Sightron later this year when they are available.

I was stationed in Tampa while in the Air Force, gives humidity new meaning..I'm in S.E. New Mexico now so usually 20% is high !!! Mirage is a different thing here, 100°-110° in summer and normally wind. I just power down in heat mirage, so that helps....I am waiting for a Sightron SVSS-ED moa to become available, but the Ten mile is real interesting (and available now) as well....I don't think I will go wrong with either one, just don't want to buy, mount and shoot it, THEN read a review that says " brand x has problems with blah, blah, blah". That's my usual luck....rsbhunter

I've read too many reviews from shooters who have compared the GE with other scopes and found it not to the level of the other scopes...both of the above included...but thanks...rsbhunter

Basically, it comes down to Sightron having the fine parallax adjustment and locking turrets, vs the zero stop on the Tenmile and availability now, vs a month (maybe longer) on the Sightron...... I do like the "floating" dot moa-1 reticle more on the Sightron..... But it's not a deal breaker ....I do know that Sightron does have a zero stop option, but it lacks greatly, like no line on turret to line up with turret cap......rsbhunter

The Sightrons are very good. I have the ED 10x50x60 and love it. But I also have 3 GEs ,for the money they are terrific. I shot a lot and have had 100% repeatedly.

I'm looking forward to the ED glass..I understand that the price dictates the quality, I am fortunate enough to be able to buy the above options, and I think the Sightron won.....! But , it's not in my hands yet...rsbhunter

or the Vortex Golden Eagle.

I don't understand why Vortex owners are so set on pushing the brand...it's a good brand, good to great optics, and if they fill your needs, then that's what you go with. I know there are millions of Vortex products out there.... But, and I know this happens with all brands, the return rate for warranty seems to be higher than other brands...I'm not downing Vortex, but they never made me want to buy them over other choices.... I honestly appreciate all the members who took the time and effort to reply.....that is why this site is honestly the "go to forum" for information that is accurate and given freely.rsbhunter

If your good with paying substantially more money, yes you can get slightly better optics as in the ED Sightron. Get it, I love mine. But what you can get in some more expensive scopes is less reliability and the lack of holding point of aim. Two deal killer problems that I have not heard of in the GEs to near the extent of some more expensive scopes.I have never seen rate of return figures for any brand of scope. Please refer me as to that information I would enjoy seeing it. Good luck.

JEFFPPC , have you experienced any poi or return to zero , or inaccurate turret adjustments with your SV ? I know on my 3 SIII's I dial 200,300,400 and 500 meter targets in each match, and so far, they have been dead on. I was hoping the SV was as repeatable and precise... Thanks for your info...rsbhunter

I have a Vortex GE with the ECR-1 reticle, a Sightron 8-32 x 56 SIII with the MOAR reticle and a NF NXS 5.5-22 x 50 with the MOAR-T reticle. All are great scopes! I think the Sightron SIII is by far the best value, the glass compares well to my NF and repeatablity is good, for a third the price of a NF. The GE is a nice scope, but gets "dark" when you go much above 40X, but the repeatability is good and I really like the reticle. The NXS is really nice, the glass is great, repeatability is great and I like the reticle, but I don't like the price.

I shot a 3.855" 10-shot group at 1000 yds with a Vortex GE. I like my Nightforce BR 12-42s a little better as I think they are a little brighter. Both of these scopes are in the $1400 range, and both have a reputation of holding zero very well. The GE has an inch more eye relief, and when I take off the aperture it is brighter.

I have had a couple of Sightron SIIIs in 6-24, and have one now. I got it for around $800 a couple weeks ago. It is 95% of an NX8 at less than half the cost, and I bought it for a hunting rifle.

I get to shoot NF ATACRs, NX-8s, Swaros, US Optics, etc on a routine basis. They are a little better than the second tier scopes, but today's second tier is miles above the first tier of a few years ago.

Yes, we actually have it good for optics....choices, quality, even the cost is reasonable for the level of optic you choose. When a new pickup or Suburban costs $75,000 and up, scopes seem like a deal. I was originally planning on buying the SV-SSED and shuffling scopes on a couple rifles....if the ed isn't available at the end of this month, I may look into a SIII to put on my AR15 ARC match rifle. Don't need 10- 50 power on it, but I'll have to keep the SIII's on my other match rifles...which has worked really well so far....rsbhunter

No, I shoot multiple matches that require elevation and windage changes. The Sightron has been rock solid. I have friends with them that shoot 600 and 1000 and they say scopes are 100 %. For that matter the GEs, currently using 3 of them, have also been rock solid. The Sightron on is so bright and clear I can live with the 50x. I often see holes when others with more power can't. I normally shoot the GEs at 55, they darken a bit at 60. Return to zero in all has been, shoot in the same hole. In my mind I rule out March do to warranty repairs done out of the country. I rule out NightForce based on past warranty experience. That leaves Vortex and Sightron, neither has yet to disappoint me. I feel often times scopes get blamed for guns not properly tuned.

I have Nightforce Competition and GE. NF has slightly better glass however GE is going to the range with me. For the price of NF I got two GE's and believe me, NF is not twice as good as GE, not even close. For 600 yards f-open, I do not see advantage of NF over GE. But its just my eyes and my level of competition ( I like to call myself one-match HM).

I think you will be pleased with your choice. Keep us posted.
