Should i jump? (From one scope to another)

Can use some help from the members...I currently have Sightron Siii 10-50's and Trijicon Tenmile 10-50 on my match rifles. Matches are from 200 to 500 meters off the bench at steel plates that are about one moa at each range. I have been eyeing the Sightron SV SS ED 10-50 for almost 6 months.....at $2000.00 , I'd need to sell one of the SIII's to fund it (Christmas , and all). I have read , researched, watched videos on the SV ED, and read comparisons on the features of the SVED vs the Siii. With my age and aging eyes, the higher power is a great help. I am just wondering if the fine parallax and ED glass would make it worth the effort of selling one of the Siii's and buying the SVED ? I know its a personal choice, but for 500 meters, would I gain anything. Thanks for any and all advice, tech info, and especially personal experience.... rsbhunter

I do not own any of the scopes you’ve mentioned, nor do I have the OPs eyesight. So my opinion is pretty worthless….. Having prefaced, assuming the plates you are shooting at are black or white, I am having a hard time seeing the benefit of upgrading in your scenario. Further distances, scoring rings, different conversation. Best of luck finding the solution that works best for you!

True, what I am juggling is the possibility of better parallax adj and cutting through mirage.... Between temps that go to 108° ( in summer of course) and using a can, mirage can get real intense. I know there is no magic bullet, but we all try to stack as much as we can in our favor. It will be a long thought process to decide if its worth the grief... rsbhunter

That barrel mirage is a problem regardless of scope selected. I’d dump the can and add a simple mirage shield as a start before I’d spend a couple grand on a new scope that may be no better than what you run now. YMMV

I agree about the barrel mirage /heat problem, but the natural mirage can be minimized by optics. I have researched all of scope makes and alot of benchrest shooters claim certain scope makes reduce or "cut" through the mirage better than others. The SVED has ED glass, so it will be better than the Siii , but I need to decide if its worth $1000.00 more. I have looked through ZCO optics, S&B, and Nightforce and there IS a big difference... But for the ranges I shoot and being a low money (entry fee) prize, it is hard to spend that much. As far as the can, I'll never go without it, if it is an option.....my 6mm Norma Dasher sounds like a fast rush of air from a air hose.....the guys at the range joke about my rifle " sneezing" when I shoot. I do use a heat cover on the can, so it helps alot.....rsbhunter

A lot of guys use a battery powered fan on the bench to blow away barrel heat, also the mirage can work to your advantage if you read it correctly, personally I turn my scope power down a tad on bad days.

I agree, ordering a rechargeable mini air inflater from Amazon for just that purpose. I've learned (learning) that the mirage can indicate wind at target better than the flags that are on top of the berm....we all shoot in conditions that we wish were different, just part of the game. I'll toss the idea of upgrading the scope for a while.....normally, the resale price is better on upper tier optics, in case the need arises....rsbhunter
