Trying to be clear about building a .22 Creedmoor

I've been researching Coyote rounds/guns and have run across the .22 Creedmoor
Very impressive.
So looking into building one, am I right in understanding that you could build one off from a Remington .308 Action, or what am I missing.
Thanks.

Why not.
And the most important thing is it will have “Creedmoore” on the head stamp.

Just kidding. It will do anything a 22 Middlestead will do.

Not understanding you?
I’m just having a little fun.
when Hornady brought out the 6.5 Creedmoor, it was introduced with an ad campaign that had people beliving it would bring world peace, cure cancer, and be darned good 1000 yard Benchrest Round, all fitting in at Short Action With a minimum amount of recoil.

Many shooters hate it because of the overhype. It was basically a 22 Middlstead, which is based on the 243 Winchester, and come on, your grand parents shot that.

OK, thanks for the clarification, I'm just learning a lot of this, never to old @ 64

I love my 22 creed. I built it off the cabelas 12fv with a criterion barrel and a chassis and everyone that shoots it just smiles. Here’s a 1000 yards

Thanks Walt
Just for understanding reasons, why a SA over a LA
A short action is just better suited to a Creedmoor length round than a long action. Long action might work, but is not necessary, and you MIGHT have feeding issues with a Creedmoor from a long action.

Thanks John, I like when folks take the time to give feed back, it let's one learn the why's and how comes.
Much appreciated.
Thanks

It’s definitely capable of being a longer distance coyote gun but it’s a bit of a struggle to find the balance if your wanting pelts. I was planning on using 90vld’s but they have disappeared so switching to 88 eldm’s. I’ve heard the 108 hybrids do well in varied distances in the 6mm creed but those have become invisible as well. Hopefully be getting some info on the 88’s pretty soon. Be keeping them below 3200

I have one. An 8 twist barrel that I’ve been shooting 75-80 grain bullets successfully. Seems pretty easy to get to a good load. Minimum recoil.

Recently got some Scenar 77 gr to try. And the UPS truck just delivered some more 4831SC.

Mine is a short action, though it is a single shot.

I've been a Single shot guy for some years, I would think it's a rare occasion to get two coyotes one right after the other.

It's not all that rare to get two opportunities on coyotes. They may not come in together, but I shoot several doubles a year that would be more challenging with the distraction of reloading a single shot. I have a .22 Creedmoor that I coyote hunt with and it's a stellar performer. Not exactly the most fur friendly of cartridges, but it's clearly a more capable killer than the .22-250's that I've shot coyotes with for the last 50 years. One thing that should be brought to your attention is the feeding issues that can be present out of the standard Remington magazine box. The taper in those boxes make it a bit crowded for the .22 Creedmoor case, and in spite of some glowing reports of how well they feed, you will likely have suboptimal (and sometimes just plane lousy) feeding performance. If you choose to build one, I would strongly suggest going with a AICS style magazine with the appropriate bottom metal for that mag.
My rifle is suppressed, and I get a big $hit eating grin when I hear that bullet hit tissue way out there and see the coyote fold up in the scope. IMO, a set of case forming dies to neck down the 6.5 Creedmoor to .22, was the best thing to ever happen to that case. If you build one, and it's done right, I guarantee you will like it.

From what I've been reading I see no real issues with it.
I'm building a .264 for my main hunting rifle right now.
so this would be my next. Though with everything If I got a good deal on another action being it Rem, Win or Savage then I'd consider those at the time if it would work.
Everything is open when your building. At least for me.

OK, after researching and talking to my Barrel guy..."Yes" I have a Barrel guy, lol
Going with my Left Hand Rem 700 SA, 24" Barrel to make my .22 Creedmoor.
Shooting 75gr ELD-Match bullet
Set in my wood Rem 700 Left Hand stock , old school with a new caliber.

Any of the Creedmoor cartridges make people smile, that is why they have become so well used and liked in many shooting matches and on hunting, even with many making fun of them. Most that make fun of them don't shoot any of them, so they really don't know about the Creedmoor line. However more and more shooters are using them and finding the benefits in doing so. Build your 22 Creedmoor and enjoy it, which you will.

I have sold quite a few of the 22 CM Prefits. It is essentially a 22-243 in performance.

I suspect the barrel life is short, another reason to buy a barrel that is easily replaced.

Personally, I shoot the 22xc. It is essentially equal to the 22250ackley with a better shape and longer neck. Super easy to make brass too.

Thanks for the information. Got the setup I was looking for.
