True Bore Alignment System

I think I'm going to buy one of these Truebore alignment systems. I have a Gator six jaw Chuck that I think is the one that goes with it. I don't know about chucks and what fits what.

I'm pretty sure my Standard Modern 1334 and my Acer 1440 take the same chuck size. But I honestly don't know that much about parts and machines.

I've tried to call the company that makes the True Bore and their voicemail is full. I sent an email I'll see if I hear back.

Does anyone know of a dealer that sells this other than the guy that makes them? Or a similar alternative?

The manual for it lists the chucks that fit. I like the idea of it... but I've heard too many people say it needs a hefty machine.

Also, any tapered sections of barrel (muzzle end) create an interesting problem.

I have one. Ive used it on both my grizzly 14x40 (1500lb single phase) and my victor 16x60 machine (3500lb 3 phase. Works well in both, some people complain about trying to part of with one in a lighter machine and getting chatter, ive never had that issue not that I part off on barrels that much but i use a thin HSS blade at a slow speed when I do. never a problem.

I have one, it runs great on the 16” Victor. I can run it on the 1340GT as well, but the speed and feed when parting has to be dialed in and a HSS blade used or it will chatter a little. I have never experienced any issues turning, threading, boring, or chambering on the little lathe though. I made aluminum sleeves with a slit to fit the barrel contours on the Mazek, I just put a screwdriver in the slit, spread it, and slide it back and turn it loose. I dont use it all the time, but it is nice when truing a 700 action.

Put the live center in the bore while parting?

I like the theory behind it, and think it would be handy in some instances, but I don't think I'd ever buy one.
Two reasons:
1) barrel whip of the unsupported end when turning at speeds over 1000rpm could be terrible.
2) holding on the muzzle end of a barrel to cut the crown/threads/sight tenon, is not feasible without profiled soft jaws.

I part the tenon "coin" off after I have indicated the barrel, as I want to see how straight the barrel is, before cutting the end off.
700rpm, .004"/rev, 1/8" carbide parting tool.

As a Machinist, I think this system is a good example of a asinine solution to a common problem, that being how to true a barrel for chambering. In particular, in a lathe with a long headstock.

True, it is innovative. But telling people…..”this is great, except due to the excessive overhang and out of balance condition, you might have to spend $20,000 on a lathe upgrade”.

There are many more options in barrel set up that are simple, far less

expensive, and works on the machines that multitudes of Gunsmiths already have.

I do find it a bit funny that everyone has been scrambling to find these tiny headstock machines, and with on Youtube video, that is all out the window... Now you can get a MONSTER!!!!

I spoke to Gordy this morning trying to find a way to contact that Nate guy. Still no ideas!!

He's a small business. I emailed him a while back about something and got a quick reply... give it a few days. What's your actual question, if that chuck will work on it?

The max chuck diameter is 6.3 inches.

I think both of my lathes take the same size Chuck a D5? And the Gator six jaw has three connectors on the back.

Personally I'd give a lot of consideration to what this man says. If you've already made up your mind about it I don't know why you even started a thread.
