Trouble with reamer

Hello
Started chambering my 700 short to 300wsm. (Krieger barrel) When i started chambering it didnt seem to cut smooth from the start , it was grabby every time i fed the reamer into the chamber. I kept an I on every thing and it didnt seem to hurt any thing but one time when I cleaned reamer getting ready to start cutting again there was a chip that would not flush off of reamer that is when I noticed that a flute on the reamer was cracked and the chip got under the crack. It was a new reamer. Has this happened to any one else? what could have caused this or could the reamer have been cracked from Mfg. and just missed.

Send it back to the manufacturer and let them have a look at it.
I have a 5.56 Target reamer that I bought new in '95 and it has always cut on one flute. It has produced some killer accurate chambers so I never thought about it. I mentioned it to the engineer at JGS the other day when I was ordering another tool, and he asked me to send it back so they can look at it and rectify it.
17 year warranty period...not bad.

Reamers are extremely brittle. Probably happened when is was grabbing. Have had it happen to me once. Now when I start a chamber I ream the first .030 of so by hand and have never had a problem since. New reamers are the worst for grabbing as they are razor sharp. The manufacturer may warranty it for you. They did for me. Good luck. Hope this helps. 8)

Send it back, reamers can and do have defects in the metal not seen when ground, I have seen reamers with similar problems, I'm sure they will repace it.

My Best, John K
