My Death Grip tripod did not have a ball-head, so I got the conversion kit from Little Crow Gunworks.
The kit contains everything to change it over to the ball-head without much fuss. Cost was reasonable, don't remember exactly or I'd post it for you.

The conversion took all of about ten minutes and the end result is exactly what I was after. All high quality components.

If I was to do it all over again, I'd order the Death Grip Infinity tripod that is available in alloy or carbon fiber and has the ball-head included in the assembly. HTH

Looking for a tripod for coyote hunting. This is for a nephew and his budget is around $350-$375. Never purchased or used a tripod for hunting so we are open to all suggestions on one.

I was in the photography business for years --I can't for the life of me understand why shooters are willing to pay out the nose for a tripod--if you look on Ebay you can by Italian made MANFROTTO ( or Bogen)
You can buy an incredible tripod for $50 these units were hundreds $$ when new--Then get the head you want off of Amazon most I see looks like $50 will get you there
You boys can buy "vintage " photo tripods that are amazing quality for peanuts--Gitzo is another fine brand-as well as Leitz Tiltall or Star D copy of the Leitz tiltall
Many many Bogen made by the best Manfrotto are available cheap
Make them camo for an $8 spray

Yup. I have an old Manfrotto from my camera days that I use and it’s a tank. I keep my Gitzo’s still for my DSLR.
But I agree. Old photo tripods can be found cheap used.

When tripods first started to be used for rifles and I wanted to try them out but was unwilling to pay the price. I was coyote hunting in northern Nevada and found this one in a dunpster at a BLM campsite in the middle of nowhere. head came off a cheap flimsy ($1.) tripod at a thrift store and I bought the saddle. It worked but not well.



Tossed the head and now use the tripod for my chronograph.

Found a great use for the aluminum BOG I bought . My wife weaves Ristas for our daughters store. Now she can do it in the living room and sit in her easy chair and work, She thinks it's fun when I recycle some of my hunting stuff int things she can use.

Looks like you are unaware of what an OBI system is, with it you can access either or both without having to drop the pack. They offer accessories to mount bino, rangefinders and just about anything you need to keep at the ready.

While the OBI system is neat, the pack above was $39. the OBI system is nearly $100/item you want to clip on between the clip and the stud. A little overprice in my book. Might be something I'll look closer at and see if I can make my own.

I have been competing and hunting for years but never had/bought any pack for $39.00 before so would bet it's Chinese and curious as to how long its gonna last if used in the field, while the OBI system is manufactured right here in the USofA and I have had at least two of them for quite a few years. This sport teaches most guys the "buy once...cry once" lesson.....I do suggest you take a closer look.

Or spend what you need to get the job done. Put the rest into the gas tank, you'll kill a lot more game.

I sew hunting gear that I can't find and make specialized stuff for myself. The pack is surprisingly well made, will carry my stool, tripod or AR the few times I use them. I usually use a back scabbard for a combo gun or bolt action, stool and cross sticks for most of my hunting.

But tried numerous models through the years, I've narrowed it down to two:



Both are Leofotos, a LS-324C & a LS-364C, both with leveling heads that I favor over a ball head. The 324 is just a tad short for standing, but folds up to a smaller length, & weighs a little less than the 364. I keep both in the truck when calling, & take the taller when I know I want/need to stand.

I think the Leofotos are the best thing going for value vs cost.



I did make longer spikes for the 364, which is better when calling in picked/chopped cornfields or in grassy fence rows:

All my calling the last several years has been at night, but weight & folded length has always been a concern, as I always carry my tripods in the scabbard of the Eberlestock backpack.

Last winter I decided I wanted to try a tripod, researched the heck out of it. Use would be for gopher and prairie dog shooting. I ended up going with the aluminum BOG Infinite with the ball head. Hands down the best investment I’ve made when it comes to PD shooting gear. Years ago, we used to lay down and shoot off bipods. Sore necks and blistered elbows after every shoot! Then I built a couple of portable shooting tables. They work great, but are a pain to drag around and set up, especially if you want to move every once in a while. A tripod as well as a simple, three leg folding chair works excellent. Adjust it to the correct height for sitting, and the ball head is a must for ease of adjustment when you’re on uneven ground, which you always will be! When I want to walk around the town, I simply extend the legs all the way, leave my rifle clamped in and pick it up and walk. Yes, a little cumbersome, but totally doable. I had read some negative reviews that these BOG PODS weren’t sturdy enough. After taking it on two hunts this past summer I certainly have nothing negative to say about it.
