Trigger Maintenance

Yesterday, I blew my first ever primer. I was thinking I needed to clean my trigger group after this happens. Am I correct in thinking I just need to spray it out well with brake cleaner, or am I off my rocker?
Is there anything else I need to do?
(Jewell Trigger)

Or, follow the directions and completely dis-assemble, and thoroughly clean it, and in the process learn a lot. It's not complicated & when taking it apart, parts and springs will not fly thru the air, forever lost.

I have tried washing out the triggers with lighter fluid then using compressed air to dry out. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Had one Jewell trigger that developed creep, tried to flush clean, did not work, dis-assembled and found a 1/2 kernal of N133 (the only powder used in this rifle) inside the trigger assembly. Had another that I bought used and it was filled with congealed oil, solvents, and gunk. It was cleaned to as new condition.

No break cleaner eh?
Nope. I don't use brake cleaner for trigger cleaning. Spray some brake cleaner on the discs next time you do a brake job and let them sit in the open air over night. If you like that orange colored stuff that develops, go ahead and use it on your trigger. :o

It's only the California version that does that. :) Later! Frank

Hadn't thought about that, Frank. You may be right. I've been trapped here for so long that I've lost sight of the fact that the "normal" world doesn't suffer from all those "save the world" rules we have. ::)

That was a joke but I think I remember someone from California mentioning something on the Corvette forum about it being outlawed. The brand I use has methanol, toluene and acetone. It also has a poison warning. Later! Frank

I use brake cleaner to blast out any crud, but then I flush with lighter fluid to restore proper lubrication. If I could find a high pressure aerosol can of lighter fluid I would probably forego the brake cleaner
