Travelling thru Illinois w/ guns

Yep that’s what it used to be but it has changed
I was traveling through Illinois about 10 yrs ago. I was speeding had 45/70 under back seat just laying under there out of sight. I had purchased box ammo and had laying in front passenger seat. Needless to say I received ticket for rifle not being in lock case . He saw ammo and probable cause to search. Think paid 120 fine on gun but no Speeding ticket.

What is America coming too? Could you imagine getting a fine for not appropriate speech?

You are right about that! As they say, once you lose the 2nd Ammendment, the others are not far behind. Think about 1A - we lost it a couple of decades ago. Now we are beginning to lose 4A. I'm plenty fed up with the degradation of the Constitution. Freedom is slowly but surely replaced with statism.

part of the statism is that in addition to losing rights is the burdensome regulations. I'll use the topic that started this thread as an example - crazy DOT laws. I run my consulting company and make about two intrastrate trips a year. The equipment I haul is industrial and looks it. Because of this, I get treated with the same regulatory (log book - now also need an ELD, drug testing, etc.) requirements as if i were FedEx. Crazy!

In Texas we are protected by the castle law. If you can lay your head down and sleep in it.... you can carry a Gatling gun in it haha

Even if you’re discovered to be transporting them.... my experience with law enforcement is they can tell who the good ole boys are. They’ll tell you what nice guns you have and let you roll....

This is America.

What a place it must be!

Illinois - Received a welcoming ticket for driving 61 in a 55 on the interstate while pulling a cargo trailer behind my pickup truck years back..I wasn't 3 miles into the state at the time...I was under the impression the 55 was for tractor trailer/commerical rigs, but the prick writing the ticket was very happy to inform me that I was wrong. I was respectful but informed him that the revenue from that ticket would never come close to earning the amount of money that I would NEVER spend in the state of Ill again through my travels, shoots, gas, etc...this on top of all their stupid gun laws..Never been an inch back into the state again for any reason and never will..If I have to drive NE, I go around the state..don't care what it cost me or how much time it adds to trip..

Interesting. I would have gotten in a lot of trouble!

Have to ask... pickups or trucks? One requires a CDL the other not. I think the gentleman is asking about a pickup with commercial plates.
CDL is required if the GCWR exceeds 26,000 lbs. However, if you exceed a GCWR of 10,000 lbs., and are commercial you need a USDOT number and do all the stuff that goes along with it: log book (now an electronic logging device (ELD), safety audit, medical card, stop by weigh stations, etc.). In my case I run a one ton truck (13,300 GVW) without a trailer.

They (the FMCSA) have really turned this into a hassle. I run a consulting company and make about two trips a year across state lines where I am hauling test/demonstration equipment. The equipment looks industrial (as a DOT inspector once said - "Does not look like this is for a casual hobby") so I had to get a DOT number. Sorry for the rant, but the FMCSA is forcing me to become a trucking expert and treating me as if I am trying to become the next FedEx. I waste many hours a year doing all sorts of compliance/regulatory bs.
