Adding this one to my list of possible target bucks.

I can only think of two reasons I wouldn’t shoot that buck, 1- I didn’t have a valid tag, or 2-my 10yo son was hunting w/ me and I’m trying to get him a shot on it…. I do realize these things are very dependent on location and management, but that one would be solidly in the ‘shoot’ column in any place I’ve hunted to this point…. I do know of a few local areas this would be a pass, just not any I hunt!

I'm guessing him at 4 1/2. Pretty intense hunting pressure on 2 sides of my property and some gun deer pressure on another side. Makes it pretty hard to let a good buck pass here. He might not be here next year. For that matter at my age, I might not either ;).

I had 3 nice bucks coming in. 2-8’s and 1-9 pt. to my feeder at the house. Haven’t seen them or any deer in about 3 wks now. Turkeys were regulars too but haven’t seen them either but have found their feathers in the grassy areas . I have not checked my cameras to see if they are coming after dark but it surprised me to see them all summer in daylight and now nothing. I guessing they are hitting the acorns and maybe coming after dark too. Not seeing many squirrels either but can hear them in the woods. Y’all have some nice deer coming in. Only thing with me is I will not shoot these around the house. Just critters to watch. On the deer lease they would/better be very careful.

Anybody want to trade a 2026 Bear hunt in Eastern NC for an Elk or Mule Deer hunt out West? I can put you on a bear 200-400lbs most likely the size. We do have 700-900lbrs on occasion. I’m a deer hunter at home here and do not pursue bears any longer but have plenty of them. Archery or Rifle, baiting is allowed, so I’ll have em coming in on a string.IMG_9725.jpegIMG_9724.jpeg

Your plots look great. I have tried about every kind of brassica known to man and the deer here mostly ignore it. I have watched them eating soybean stubble after harvest while my plot with 3 kinds of beautiful brassicas were neglected.
We have a fairly wide selection of seeds that we plant, and typically in strips/small blocks within the total plot area.
These include Winter Greens Turnips (Brassicas), Radishes, Winna Chicory, some Winter Wheat/ Triticale Oats, White Clover, White Beets. The maturity and pressure on each varies, so as the primary targeted food that the Deer/Turkeys are eating is depleted, the underlying (some seeds are combined) variant begins to flourish.
This has been successful for us, and of course periodic fertilizer/pelletized lime for ph management doesn’t hurt.
