Top pay for a shooting event and yearly gross

Don't know for sure that they are in US. But 20+ years ago a local gent won over 30k in one weekend. This was out of in ground boxes, seven boxes per field, minimum of 32 yards away to start I think.
They did this in Maysville KY for a while. Birds were launched up in the air about 6 ft, live pigeons. Big money there. Got shut down.

Last year at the NRA Across the Course Nationals, I was 3rd place overall (2nd Match Rifle), 1st High Master and won the Army Cup (a 600 yard stage trophy). Think it was a whopping $170.00 award money for everything. I hadn't even thought about award money until NRA sent me the check.

264 rounds (240 record+sighters) fired. Then all the associated costs of travel, lodging, etc.

Definitely not a game to support a family of four on. :p

In the Silhouette world, Lapua/Capstone P.G. has sponsored the Lapua Monarch Cup for the last three years.

Just the cash prizes is $25,000 each year with awards spread between two major matches and all the classifications. You can see the spread of the award money on this page to see how they really spread the money down the classes and not just the top winners.

A ton of product/service door prizes are given out at the matches and adding in the awards brings the total close to doubling that cash amount.

None of us shoot Silhouette for the money but for the love of the game. But it is kind of nice when you win a little something to reward your accomplishments.

RMAC is likely top return for your entry fees. Top of the line air rifle might cost you $3K, plus a scope; but the most expensive match grade slugs are about a nickel apiece.
It is a great match, just to go see the Elephant!

Over the 20-something years competing in NRA & CMP Highpower I can recall covering my entry fees twice. Donated a number of times to junior teams for lesser amounts. I rarely made enough for gas money. Whatever.... wasn't competing for the money. NRA award points were pretty well useless but they covered some future entry fees. I guess you have to be a shooter with a billboard for a jersey to earn any significant money. Oh, and a YouTube channel shilling for something......

Live birds with the side bets.
Bingo ^^^ Live Pigeons !!! ( Quietly, by Invitation, Shot, in the USA, Openly in Spain, Italy and Monte Carlo )
Then ATA Trap shooting would be, Next in line, as I remember shooting For,.. New Shotguns, Gold Coin Belt Buckles, Cases of Ammo, GTO's / Cars, even, in Reno / Vegas, Big Dollar, Cash "Calcutta's",.. etc,..
Great Times, in the mid 1970's to late, 1980's for,.. Me ! ( Holy Cow, THAT WAS,.. 40-45 years, ago ! )
Winchester Model 12's, THEN, Lujtic's, Krieghoff's and,.. Perazzi's, were, the Guns to, Own ( Spendy Chit !! ).
And "Handicap Trap" was where, the Money "was", then !

Yep,. 7 Boxes "Spring Loaded" was the Fairest of the Live Pigeon Shoots But,..
Hand Thrown birds were also, Shot and the human "Thrower" could do some, "Wicked Chit" with, those Birds !
Thankfully, I was Young and pretty Fast, at, Doubles Trap, in those Days, so Pigeons were,.. Fun for Me

When I was a young man, I used to attend turkey shoots. I could shoot a bit, and we ate a lot of turkey. Sometimes, we'd have some side bets for folding money. Never serious amounts, we were sawmillers and loggers
I attended one BR match where there were a lot of prizes up for grabs. I had a good weekend and won a new Remington 700, a couple thousand bullets and a bunch of other components. I was kind of poor back then, so the win was a big deal for me.
I watched a You Tube thing featuring some rapid-fire shooting, in Norway, I think. They had a grandstand full of spectators. They probably made some money. Matches I go to, there will be some old guys snoozing in lawn chairs. WH
