Too many non shooting threads?

This forum is a community. Many of us here know each other either from this forum or from shooting together at matches, hunting together etc. We use it to keep in touch with friends across the country and world. We use the forum to learn and share knowledge and ides mostly about shooting, but also to support each other in times of good and bad and to share other ideas that members might enjoy but also occasionally argue about. And of course because of the nature of our sport many of us are highly opinionated and political which adds another layer. The bottom line is it's a community. Do you want to be part of it or just the crabby neighbor next door? It's easier to pass on the posts your not interested in than it is to read them.

Use the search feature. Think of anything you want to learn about and plug it in, like "optimum seating depth for Sierra 168". You will usually get three pages of mind numbing technical data and 50 opinions. There's a ton of info saved here. After a few hours of reading the "tech jargon", you might be ready to discuss lighter subjects as a relief. Good luck;)

Hi,
I have been reading this forum for some years now, daily, I mean everything that is posted.
I am having difficulties to read everything lately, I am not retired, must work and then there is family also. I understand that there are more and more members, that leads to more posts...BUT does there must be posted so MANY non shooting questions, threads and other crap lately?
If the trend goes on, I will be forced to stop reading it...what a shame, this forum IS GREAT!!!!
Hope my post dont add too much to non shooting related reading:D
Cheers

Read the final two posts in the following thread. One by Jay and the other by Forum Boss.

I kinda like some of the non shooting related threads......Heck, when you go to a shoot guys there are talking about things other than shooting too, it's just natural. I see it like this, people that have similar interests usually have similar mind sets and I like to see other people's view on things. It gives a person a different perspective. This site is like a community, so when guys are talking about their work shops or trucks or shooting benches or family functions or politics..... it serves multiple purposes, it gives me a different view of the subject and it tells me more about that person and their character.... and if a thread bores me, it only takes 2 clicks to close it and open another one, it's really not a laborious or time consuming task.

You guys have got it all backwards - it's not that non-shooting threads are not allowed per se. I think it would be great to have them. It's that (many) forum members are not capable of self-managing themselves in terms of their ability to handle disagreements.

If there were 50 of us (admins), sure we could handle it on a case by case basis. Since there are 2 of us, 1 of which has an actual, full time job and the other who spends the equivalent of a full time job on other things, that means we take the simplest, most efficient route to resolving the issue(s).

Make me a moderator, I'll right this ship.

To be a moderator you have to have an open mind and be able to put yourself in anothers shoe's. I posted about my daughter last year who is doing very poorly however by doing so many wonderful people helped my daughter. So yes there are posts that are not cool but I breeze on to what I feel is important.
