To Trim or Not to Trim

I have recently acquired a factory 40X in 22BR. Having read through the 22BR guide I understand the forming of the 22BR from 6BR brass.

My question is, comparing the overall length, case head to case mouth) of the parent 6BR @ 1.560 to the 22BR @ 1.520 would suggest to me that trimming is in order. However, I haven't noticed the subject mentioned in either the guide or posts.

Am I correct with the idea that the difference would need to be trimmed?

Thanks in advance for comments

Yes, the older Remington chambers require you to trim to length. But the best thing to do would be to order a trim length gauge from Sinclair and actually measure your chamber's trim length.

Fireball,

Thanks for the reply. I was taking your advise regarding the trim Gage from Sinclair.

I got the current catalog out,oh boy, more stuff!) and looked up the the part # Gage. When I found it for the 22BR I noticed an asterisk. The asterisk explanation went something like this "our gages are made for the newer 1.560 length brass, gages are available for the 1.520 brass as a special order."

Considering that the model 40X that I have was introduced in 1999 I'm guessing that I may be okay with the 1.560 length. You think?

Appreciate the help. I've made enough boo-boos not asking to at least have learned to ask when I don't understand something now.

Hi Bill,

The chamber length gage that you would want to use is the G-224. It will work in either chamber, but you will sacrifice a piece of brass to do this operation. The other gage you had referred to was the Wilson, and it is specific to the length of the version of the BR that you would use it with and not the one that you would want to use for the information that you are after.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

My thanks to Fireball&Bobs243Ackley.

Appreciate the replies.

Turns out the 40X has a 1.520 length.
