TN Bushings causing engraving marks on necks during sizing

?taper on redding bushings...are we refering to a "chamfer". they do have this on the inside of both ends and i'v used them both ways without any difference. got really bad scratches with new brass...deburred and all was well. i'll pay closer attention to the brass deposits mentioned as sometimes i get scratches with oder brass...now i know why.

Some think there is a taper in the bore of the Redding bushing - there is not. (and if it is, it is unintended and surely by accident! :) )

The bushing mouth that is the entrance to the bore has undergone a few changes over the years - first they were rounded slightly - then they went through a period of using a 45° bevel that looked like it was crudely done they a chamfer "rocket" (by hand :( :( :( )

Currently, they seem to be back to the slightly rounded mouth. The physical shape of the mouth (and the finish) are the cause of 98% of the necking problems with Redding bushings. I switched from TiN back to steel so I could refinish the mouths myself.

Wow ---- yes, most certainly an education! Thank you all for the replies with such good information. I'll be adding a tad of Imperial in the future for neck sizing with TN bushings, but cant wait to get my hands on a .244 carbide one!

Bow Shot - going south meant from smooth necks to engraved ones.

Outdoorsman - thanks for the carbide bushing source.

The Carbide bushings that Bud Mundy provides have a taper on both ends. However, one side is more tapered than the other and is easily seen with the naked eye if held at an angle to a light source. If you can't see it use a magnifying glass. The more tapered end goes down to help with case neck insertion.
