TN & AL Mid Range State Championship

Congratulations to David Mayfield of Little Rock Arkansas for winning the overall TN & AL Mid Range State Championship. Course of fire was 20 shots for record at 300, 500 and 600 yards Metallic sights on day one and ANY sight on day two. Most elected to shoot iron both days, to include David Keith and myself. David only dropped 3 points in a two day marathon of shooting for a 1197-70X’s. Phillip Crowe of Alabama also held in there with the same score and the win decided on x count. Phillip posted a fine 1197-64X. This was good enough to give him the High Alabama resident mid range Champion. Your humble scribe snuck in from behind the up and coming Doug Fletcher to also take the High TN champion trophy on X count also. 1193-81X to Doug’s 1193-64X. It was another battle right to the end. Two 6BR’s doing battle. Two guns built by the same guy using the same reamer and shooting the same load. Let’s not forget Keith Perry who came in 3rd overall shooting a 6AR Turbo 40 in a gas gun. Keith was smoking when he snapped the highest score on Sunday of 599-36X. That’s only dropping one point all day. The weather was so nice Sunday we had two 599’s two 598’s and a 596 and a 595. Now that’s hammerin.

Our good Friend Danny Biggs posted a great 1191-53x for the High F class shooter of the weekend. There was just enough wind to plague the F class guys. Just 5 cleans where shot on any givin F class target all weekend. Despite that, there was a ton of 199 shot. Close behind was Big Jim Fowler with his screaming yellow 6Dasher with a score of 1189-69X. That’s a fine X count on those tiny little targets Jim. That’s almost half of his shots in the 1/2MOA X ring in two days of shooting! Way to go Jim!!!! Frank Beckman took High TN honors in the F class posting a 1187-63X right behind Mr Fowler.. Halie Pitts took the high JR and High Woman honors. She is a freshman in Collage looking to be and Engineer. We sure are proud of you Halie.

With the fantastic weather in the mid 70’s and the sun shinning down on us, it was hard not to appreciate a range that faces North with trees on both sides as wind breaks. I hope the other 54 shooters felt the same way. This nice little range nestled in the trees is a National Record setting Mecca. Over 30 National Records where set over the weekend and 38 National Records where set last spring with a 15 shot course of fire. That is over 60 National records set on this range. If you want to set a mid range National Record … you need to shoot in Memphis TN!!!!

We had shooters from all over the region show up. Shooters from Texas, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and even Florida. What a great turn out. 55 shooters. A great pork dinner afterwards. Great prizes from Krieger Barrels, Sinclair International, Champions Choice, Dillon Precision, Berger Bullets, Xtreme Shooting triggers, Phoenix Tactical, and the US army.

Until Next time, shoot good, be safe and have fun

As one of the shooters, I just wanted to thank Russ and everyone for putting on a great shoot this past weekend. I had a blast even in the wind. Thanks again Russ.

Glad the match went well, I was thinking about you guys both days, but I needed to be with Twilla.

Turned out she had a good day Saturday and we were at the BGC Range most of the morning.

Congratulations,

George Toney
