Titanium Nitride Defiance Deviant - Love it, Hate it, In between?

I work in an oil field machine shop where we use a thread gage on every connection we cut. Some gages are TIN coated. These gages were preferred by the Machinists. They never galled or stuck on the threads. We never had any problems with the coating chipping. In comparison the un-coated thread gages picked up chips, galled and stuck if they were overtightened or un-lubricated. I spent the extra money on TIN coated bushings and have never had a problem with them. I have thought seriously about having the bolt on my Panda action TIN coated to add a little bling and rust preventative to it.

What you do is your business, however I was wondering if you were going to wear a colour coordinated outfit when at the shooting matches :D:cool:.

Check out my new surgeon 591R - 6x47 L chambered by Beanland and it shoots like a dream.

This is TiAlNi and is what Richter precision calls C6B. The bolt is their C12 DLC which is chromium layered with carbon compared to microslick or whatever which is bismuth base with carbon on top.

Got rained on for an entire field-tactical match and I'm so used to not worrying about corrosion. Got home and a week later I shot one bullet and noticed my bolt felt weird. My remington style extractor had corroded but nothing else had at all. Slicked her up and back to normal. I'll remember that next time I get rained on for 10 hrs. I probably need to pop out the FP and spring. Going to buy Tubbs new springs anyhow soon - just got to get him to make some for Surgeon small pin.

Just installed the 2 stage Timney Calvin Elite Flat trigger on my Remington and like it but haven't tested it yet. Saw you mention it above. 80z first stage, 1 1/2lb second stage. Cant wait to give it a try. I also use the Vortex Razor HD, great features, and love the service. Gold isn't my color but that action is pretty slick. Jesse

They have a tendency to cause longitudinal grooves along the neck. Posts about the problem are common on this site.

I could not let this pass by without comment.

I experienced the same problem on a new 6BR bushing, with new Lapua brass, BUT discovered it was due to MY process. I tumbled to clean, THEN ran them through my Giraud trimmer, then neck sized, and got scratches on about 10 cases. Microscopic examination show it to be little particles (shavings) of brass causing the grooves. I then tumbled them again to remove any shavings or brass dust, then sized them, and experienced NO further problems in the next 700 cases.

So the answer is clean, particle free cases won't be scratched. I have run 5000 or so cases through my 22-250 neck sizer, and 5000 to 6000 cases through my 223 neck sizer , both with TiN bushings, and have never had a scratch, of course I tumble them all before sizing.
