Titanium Nitride Defiance Deviant - Love it, Hate it, In between?

However not PC it is, we've been calling it the "Ghetto Blaster" locally, lol, but it has been called Goldmember, Goldfinger, etc.

I think when I build my boomer Surgeon XL or 1081/Deviant LA, I'll Melonite the action and titanium nitride the bolt for a nice contrast as was my original plan but with sniper grey exterior.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It`s GOLD.............. ???

Not really my thing, but i`m glad you`re happy with it, it will definitely make for an interesting build.

Please keep us posted with build pictures, i`d like to see the finished product.

Phil.

Can the flutes in the bolt be coated black? That would really "mellow" it out.

Otherwise, you need one of these in a holster when you bring that to the range.

You know, the funny thing is....

I'm getting a 40 SW-9mm conversion with threaded barrel for this pistol and it will also be coated by Coating Services group to function as my pistol in some tactical matches

Gallery of "limited" glock I purchased recently (not a glock guy at heart btw): http://www.glockmeister.com/ShowAdditionalImg.asp?number=G22GMCS#

Since it's going to be a competition rig and the barrel will be burnt up regularly I'm going with a bead blasted stainless finish if I start shooting it a lot before I get a chance to send the barrel off to Trutec to be "melonited".

If you get sick of it just blast the outside with aluminum oxide and cerakote it with the inside still gold. Thatll look real good

Dusty that's what I planned to do initially with Sniper Grey. I think it would look quite sharp with just enough flair but not as gaudy as it currently sits.

i like it, way cool color!! ,you can bet that there will not be one other action like it anywhere when you go shooting.
nicely done

There was one of those that hung on the rack at my local gun store for about 7 years, the only people that ever wanted to see it refered to it as 'that gold jank'

H-D's need to be chromed.

PIMP's prefer gold!

If your custom needs to be plated/coated to operate smoothly-it's a plated/coated paper weight.

Off topic but I got that Glock 22 transfer from the previous pics in at my hometown gun store and it is an amazing gun, especially for the price. I've never been a glock fan but this thing is a smooth criminal and the recoil is ummm surprisingly minimal. Although it's ugly, it's starting to grow on me. The TFO sights will surprise you in low light. Got some ugly grip tape and my Crimson Trace CMR-205 on now. http://www.crimsontrace.com/products/type/rail-master-pro/01-4250

If wanting to improve on what little a Defiance Deviant lacks makes it a paperweight I want to know what you are using!!! ;D They are planning to offer the common black coating for what I heard as $40 in the future.

This rifle will spend the majority of its time in the dirt, shot a lot, cleaned sparingly, and not really get the pampered treatment. Plus I think trying new things is fun. I know a few guys that have worked their bolts (turned the middle down) to run super icy yet feel tight at both ends of the run and they are great too.

I found a place offering this treatment for $100 to bolt actions. I'm going to send a Savage 10 there this week to have it coated as well to check their QC as the price is SO DANG CHEAP! Sending a pistol barrel too.

Link to the cheaper titanium coating place which offers 4 colors. https://squareup.com/market/mg-precision-arms-ltd

Here's a pic of it on a practice barricade in my backyard. This thing shoots lights out.

Any bushing will need a little lube and the brass also needs to be clean. Those grooves are caused by brass cold welding (galling) onto the surface of the bushing. The galled brass then scars the neck of subsequent cases. Pistol shooters will tell you the same thing happens with the solid tungsten carbide rings in straight pistol case dies. This has been going on with pistol rounds for at least about 50 years. I know it first happened to me about 1971 when using a carbide .357 Mag die. You can avoid the grooves by applying a tiny bit of lube from your fingers on one case in 4 or 5 and by only using clean brass. The original tribal knowledge and marketing baloney with carbide pistol dies was, the material was so hard that it just pushed the grit on dirty cases ahead and never needed ANY lube. The material is hard but dry dirty brass will cold weld to it.

The TIN bushings are not easily polished to improve the surface texture. An uncoated steel bushing can be polished a little to improve the surface finish and reduce galling. The polishing removes the galled on brass. But the case necks should be lubed slightly now and then to prevent galling and the need to keep polishing. Wiping the carbon off of the case necks with an oily patch is about all the lube that is needed.

They have a tendency to cause longitudinal grooves along the neck. Posts about the problem are common on this site.
