Tinkering Today

Chambered a 6BRDX for a Stiller TAC30 for one of our members mr.big. I had done a 6.5x47L for him and he wanted to see what all the hoop-la was about. ;)

That looks really nice. The pictures are proof of pride, and you should be. Keep up the good work. We need more people who take pride in their work.

Not a smith but that sure does look sweet. Can I ask about the copper (wire?) Do you clamp on that rather than the barrel and if so doesn't it move/compress, etc in the lathe?

That wire is a very high priority. It serves as a pivot. There is a spider on the other end to allow me to dial a barrel in dead nutz.

Great work! Very nice finish. What tooling are you using?

Threaded with Arthur Warner HSS, bolt nose recess is with JGS .705" counterbore. I do go behind with some beautification!!

Good deal! AR Warner makes nice stuff. I have their threader, profile tooling, parting tool and a few turning bits. They get used a lot. Plus their shop is about 15 min away if I need anything. :)

That crown bevel looks a whole lot better than just a straight wall. Nice work on the breech, too. Copper wire is a good idea. Got to be easier than dealing with shim stock.

The copper wire works good. I bored a set of soft jaws for my Buck Set-tru chuck in order to get more surface area on the wire.
And yes, I like working close to the chuck! ;D

I don't have a short head stock and have a cat head on both ends.

Hey Butch, my old Southbend has a 2 1/4 x 6 thread for the chuck, I was wanting to do the same thing, to be able to dial in even shorter barrels. Cat head, now I know what its called!

Give the wire a try, an electrician friend hooked me up with about 400 feet!

400' of copper wire? You got enough to sell it for scrap and take the money and by a new high-dollar gun ;D
