6x47L brass questions

Hello,

I recently got my Stiller TAC30 back from the gunsmith with my Lilja 6BR barrel rechambered for 6-6.5x47L. I've only had a chance to get it zeroed and do some basic load development. So far it's looking pretty promising w/ the B105VLD,only bullet I've tried thus far). I had a couple questions on the brass regarding some things I've seen thus far that had me concerned.

1) On both this rifle, and another one in 6.5x47L,different reamer, obviously, and different gunsmith) the factory brass miked something like 0.450" at the base of the shoulder, and fired brass is reading 0.458". Is it supposed to be expanding that much - or is the factory brass supposed to be that undersized? Also, when I size the brass to just bump the shoulder 0.001", get a nice bright ring just below the shoulder all the way around the body. Noticed the same thing on the 6.5x47L brass from my friends gun, also using Redding Type 'S' bushing F/L dies. Sized brass still measures 0.458" at the same point.

2) I noticed elsewhere on this forum someone involved in 600/1k BR mentioning that people had needed to open up the flash holes to get the 6-6.5x47L to perform to BR standards. Sounded a little weird, but the other night I ran a Russ Haydon PPC sized flash hole uniformer into my cases and the flash hole on all of them was undersized... as in it cut a noticeable amount of metal from the sides of the hole on every single one. Unless they sent me a wrong-sized tool, it seems like the flash holes are awfully small to begin with. Is this what was being talked about? Do I need to open them up more?

Thanks,

Monte

Monte, Your flash hole uniformer should measure about .062 in diameter in order to open them up. I don't know if some of these guys are using something larger for this particular case. Bill

I have a 6.5x47 my remer print at the N/S shows .4578, my fired cases are .459, my Redding type S/FL die sized cases are .456 and have a bright ring at the N/S junction. After the local 600yd matches are over I intend to send it to JLC and hve the shoulder honed out closer to the proper size or maybe have a die non bushing custom made by forster or hornady.
