Time to make the donuts....

A box full of Lee Classic Cast press and parts, some home whittled gizmos, a hundred each core seated .925" and 1.00" J4's, assorted taps, a carbide reamer or three, 16 lbs. of powder, an off-the-reservation style pillar bedded Ruger 77/22 Hornet :oops:o_O and temps in the single digits. Time to head into the wilds of the Iowa sub continent to see if our ideas measure up to our brainstorms.

Good shootin' :) -Al

Al, is your passport up to date? Also, make sure to exchange money at the border....

Yes, Lee's BrC thread was excellent! Unfortunately, a collection of, "bullet maker" methods/concepts, solicited by [the late] Wilbur Harris (BrC founder) was, during a format change, "lost" in cyber-space. There wasn't a lot of stinginess displayed by the top notch bullet makers of that era - about thirty years ago.o_O
Is that the article with input from Bryan Armatys, Guy Chism, Don Gentner, Mike Marcelli, Gary Ocock, and yourself RG?

Thanks for that Tim, that was the "saved" version of Stephen Perry's thread, a very good and interesting thread when it was going.
The saved version lost all the pics people posted and I think some of the posts.

What ever happened to Stephen, does he still make bullets and compete?

I'm thinking the article RG is referring to was an article that Wilbur solicited from various bullet makers and was one of the articles featured on the old Benchrest Central website, see attached

I lost a lot of bullet making info from a very knowledgeable bullet maker when Saubier disappeared.
Should've saved it as websites seem to have a habit of doing that sometimes.

I'm going to add a few articles I've collected over the years on bullet making.
There were articles in Precision Shooting and the Benchrest Primer as well

Tim, while the thread you linked was a very good discussion - Thank You - it is not the one to which I referred. The link on post #226, by Kiwishooter is the one which contains the concepts/methods which Wilbur solicited.

Potential bullet makers can 'flatten the curve' by paying attention to what George Ulrich advises.

Steven Perry's thread is, exceptional - very little straying from the topic. :) As usual, I'll stray, briefly, &, once again, repetitively: LUBRICATION is a NECESSARY EVIL . . . use it sparingly!o_O;) RG

Thanks for that, sorry to hear that.
Yes he was controversial and had his opinions, but I always thought he was a serious Benchrest competitor that loved the sport.
I did have some interesting discussions with him on other forums about bullet making also.

Here goes a thread he started

The whole process to gain some sort of personal satisfaction was really not worth the effort.

My best response to this is a quote from my friend Joel Nader...

"Bullet making is like cooking, if you're perfectly happy eating out at diners every night be prepared for some good meals and some not so good meals, but if you don't mind a little time at the market and a little work in the kitchen, then the "vittles" are quite a bit better. "

I don't cook, but I make my own bullets and the analogy couldnt be more true for me.

BTW, the Bryan Armatys contributing to this string used to make the great Zia bullets.
He now works at the welcome center at the Whittington Center at Raton New Mexico. Had a great visit with him there this past year.

Al, did you and that esteemed gentleman from Iowa make any progress on the super secret project?
