Tikka Super Varmint

I love mine but I want a little more velocity than I’m getting and would like a heavier barrel for shooting. It’s a compact version with the standard lite profile at 20”.

I can’t decide if I want to buy a shouldered prefit in a heavier profile or just sell this one and buy a varmint or a varmint hunter (wood stock version).

Anyone here tried the shouldered prefit on a Tikka?

I’m looking for a super varmint in 243 if anyone can find one.
I have a Tikka T3x lightweight. I bought it because of all the 223 rifles have, I didn't have a sporter weight rifle. Tikka makes a really nice rifle, just cycle the bolt to know the quality. My criticism is they are all built on the same action. All of the "short action" cartridges along with the "long action" chamberings are built on the same action. They just block the magazine to accommodate the shorter rounds. As a result, I bought a Howa 1500 mini action in .223. This is a sweet little rifle. Just what I was looking for in a quick handling gun. It doesn't have the feel of quality as the Tikka.

if you don't need a Adjustable Comb, Tungsten Cerakote & threaded barrel i would tell you go with the standard varmint the stock is still the cheap plastic from my first Tikka Varmint from 2004 .
i have a new SV in 223, i dropped in a GRS stock with atlasworxs bottom metal with MDT aics
mags i use this a bench /pd rifle . i have the trigger spring as well if i remember right it's
around 1.5 lb. trigger .

The Tikkas just seem to shoot well for a factory rifle, I just got another one the other week. It’s a T3 Ember in the 6.5 PRC. I didn’t need another rifle, I was bored and needed something new to play with. I put an Arken on it and got some 140 grain Bergers. I didn’t have any of the recommended slow burners but had some 7828ssc. Loaded 20 brand new Lapua cases with a top charge and went to the range. Didn’t expect much as it was windy & cold and the trigger was a little heavier than I would prefer. Shot 10 rounds getting used to the rifle and getting zeroed and then my buddy wanted to shoot it once. I fired the last 9 that I had fairly quick. It’s showing promise, I think.

Another Tikka Super Varmint shooter. Mine is in 6.5 Creed and will bounce around a 3” gong at 500 yards easily if I dial the scope properly and don’t screw up the shot. Likes both Hornady American Gunner 140 grain and AAC 140 grain SMKs . Highly recommend the SV. Mine is a range gun only but would make a great stand/ blind hunting rifle.

Man I have a t3 varmint in 223 and really contemplated a super varmint. I wanted the threaded barrel but this one is a great shooter with 40g noslers and 50gvmax
I have been trying to get my hands on a super varmint stock in hopes that it’s better than the cheap plastic one on mine.
Don’t suppose anyone got rid of their stock?

I bought a SV in .223 a couple years ago. It was one of the first 3 rifles that Midway Arms received. That was October 2022.

It has been my most accurate rifle from the start. I did struggle with getting used to the trigger with that long take up. A year ago I put in a Timney trigger group and am much happier. I have Timney's on my CZ 457s so now they all feel similar. It has done really well on sage rats and PDs.

The only complaint I have, and it has been mentioned often, are the magazines. I have 6 spare 6 round mags. 2 of them are unreliable and I have relegated them to range use only. Unreliable in that if I work the bolt quickly, it will often fail to strip a round. I tried playing with the springs and that helped for a while. Someday I'll get around to trying something else. The original mag and the other 4 spares work fine. Those plastic mags are pretty pricey too.

I typically shoot sage rats and PDs with the Nosler 55 grain Varm bullet. Going to go with the V-Max 40 grain this year.

After seeing your comment about the magazines that fail to strip rounds, the one that came with my gun is doing the same thing. I emailed Tikka/Beretta and left a message but never got an answer so I called them and never got past a voice mail that has never been returned. After talking to some other Tikka guys apparently it is common knowledge that their customer service sucks… I use my 6 round mag with a single shot follower and I got a 3 or 4 shot mag that does function.

I never got an answer from my email either. That single shot follower is a good idea. I think I'll give it a try.

Few year old thread but I recently lucked into a T3 SV with a 223AI threaded spiral fluted 26" Lilja with an 8oz trigger and 2 10rd mags for $1000. It shows good promise. I like the feel of it, just need find time to work on a load or two.
