I fired my 6-284 Tikka LITE T3x with a new 1-13 twist, 28 inch Pac-Nor barrel out yesterday at the range with my first test OCW loads. After loading 8 different increased loads, one case at a time, I reached the QL's max w/o any pressure signs. I then loaded the OCW of 3 cases each of RL26 and 55 grain Ballistic tips, and fed 210's, for 4 different amounts. I saw a flat spot in the velocity, and loaded 6 more cases on the high and low side of the load. That resulted in a difference of 9 fps @ 4320 FPS (I reached 4404) for an average of 3 shots. I know this is a very small amount to test from, but with a barn-burner of a cartridge, I wanted to arrive at my coyote load as soon as possible to save components and barrel life.
I want to give a shout out here to Lloyd @ Buckeye Bullets & Brass for doing a great job neck Turning my brass. Everything was spot on for my necking down to the proper bushing size for my Redding die. Sending my brass to him was cheaper than getting a lathe & a neck turning cutter.
The recoil is nonexistent with the Whitt machine brake and the 55 ballistic tips. This is a LR coyote blaster rig only. No competitions or prairie dog towns. There was zero horizontal @ 100 yards with this load so far. I will go further out to confirm my app drops. I would like to thank Dave @ coyotestuff.com for lending his expertise in setting up my coyote slaying rig. (DAA @ predator masters). AckelymanII helped out in a big way in clearing up the muddy waters of wildcatting. Fast twist and the heavies are fine for LR, but for just harvesting coyotes, flat trajectory and speed kills.
Anyway, Im a very happy camper. Cheers!
