I have been contemplating changing my T3 from 6CM to 6 BR for PRS but have wondered about feeding and ejecting at speed.

What advantage would you gain? Less powder, more wind drift is all youd gain not to mention locked into not being able to run cheaper brass if need be.
Downside to 6 BR: less velocity, 2 tenths more wind on 10% of my targets
Upside: more accuracy, more consistency, more barrel life, less recoil, cheaper brass (BR Lapua brass is cheaper than all the quality offerings for Creedmoor), less powder, etc. Im sure I left something off the list.
It’s been brought up quite a few times in certain discussions that the majority of PRS matches are won with a variant of the 6BR or a 6.5x47. You could probably add 6XC to that list as well. All of those cartridges have their beginnings in the BR/F-class environment and hold most of the records. It only makes sense that they would also dominate in PRS.
You can send me one, ill see if i can shootI have taken 2nd or 3rd in 3 out of the last 5 State Championships, and a Regional. 45-60 participants. My custom builds are competitive...and not "marginal".
If I could get someone who could shoot...to get behind a couple of them, I think they would clean house.I'm sure they shoot better than I do.

Like i said theres an option on cheaper brass. Sure lapua is a tad higher but you can get creed brass for exactly half price of lapua br brass- you can also buy loaded ammo in a pinch. The wind is going to drift a br quite a bit more- which is why you dont see many br rifles in competitions past 600.
^^^ not sure who's gonna buy the Tupperware however the barrel should sell, especially if it's a 243
would you pls list the mods you started to do, and the reasons for each one? thanks, I know this is an older thread, but I think there is a lot of interest on this topic!! other shooters pls add your input.I think I can be credited with being one of the, if not THE person who started the customizing of the Tikka "craze"...several years ago (2010).
I designed, and had several runs of Rem 700 style recoil lugs CNC machined, and surface ground to exact tolerances. Then, we face off the taper on the face of the receiver. This leaves quite a bit of meat on both sides of the bottom of the face of the action. (all the lugs you see these days are spin off's of my original design) So the lugs are drilled out, and double pinned to these locations. The factory lug is done away with, and the slot in the bottom of the receiver acts as a secondary bedding surface when the bedding material fills it in and hardens.
I contour my barrels to the new diameter of the lug, approximately 1.180". With the ability to change bolt stop length, the same action can run a medium cartridge, or a long. Just swap out the bolt stop, and install the appropriate magazine. Or, mill a medium stop to a long, if that's the way you want to go.
When I started on this venture, I completely purged my safe of every brand, and started buying, and building Tikkas. I know them inside and out. And I have acquired my High Master status shooting Tikkas.

IMO, forget it and if you want a short or long range competitive benchrest rifle start with a good custom action, quality barrel and stock and build from there in the caliber you feel best suits your shooting game.Has anyone built a dedicated benchrest rifle on a Tikka T3 action? Pro's /con's ?
All the mods I do are listed above.would you pls list the mods you started to do, and the reasons for each one? thanks, I know this is an older thread, but I think there is a lot of interest on this topic!! other shooters pls add your input.
Hey that’s great news!Been super busy. I’m rarely on here. Did just buy a chassis and goodies to put together another Tikka. Probably a barrel nut/prefit this time.View attachment 1509682
