Tight-neck question

Okay, I see all these guns for sale with .269 necks. I have a couple of questions...

1) Must the neck be turned on every reloading? Or, do ya'll turn the neck once and you're good to go for several reloadings?

2) Does the tight-neck really make an appreciable difference in accuracy or is it just a fad? I've heard many are going back to standard necks...what is your opinion?

I've not shot with my tight neck rig too much, but I've not seen any evidence that I will need to revisit the turning cutter a second time.

I do not plan on it being any less accurate than anthything else that I shoot, and with virtually idential neck thickness between and among the cases, the ability to control neck tension and obtain a consistent release is significantly greater.

1) No, you do not have to turn the necks with every reloading. Like anything else in the reloading world, you need to measure and check the dimensions occasionally as you reload the brass. Your mileage may vary in particular if you load to maximum pressures.

2) Yes, the turning of necks is beneficial to accuracy. It just depends on how you define accuracy. Bench rest shooting, varmint shooting, and deer hunting each has a different definition. Also not all brass is made by Lapua and even if Lapua not all brass came from the magic lot with uniform neck thickness.

3) If you use bushing type sizing dies, to obtain uniform neck tension the necks should be turned to uniform thickness.
