Tight Neck or No?

I generally shoot at Chabot. http://chabotgunclub.com/ There are negotiations with the local park district that the gun club leases from, but there is real concern the range will be shut down. That would be too bad, as the environment there is quite nice, but the facilities are aging. The other place which I likely start moving to is at USI (United Sportsmen Incorporated). http://unitedsportsmen.com/ There are five clubs that operate from this place. At present, some ranges are shut down because bullet fragments were found on the roof of a church (as I understand it). Expect pushback on reopening (who knows when), if there is any evidence the fragments came from the range.

I don't know where you plan to move to in the bay area, but this site may help you scope out where to shoot.

http://www.sacvalley.org/ This is closest range to the bay area that I know of that goes out beyond 200 yards. There is an unrestricted 100, 200, and 300 yard ranges, but anything greater, out to 1000, requires two people and membership in a club (as I recall), I am in the eastern part of the bay area, and for me, it is a solid 2 hour drive to this place, one way. It is south and a bit east of Sacramento. It can get windy and hot.

There is one range in Petaluma, in the north bay that goes to 300 yards, but the place is very run down, even though I think they were rebuilding shooting benches in concrete. But, the walk out to the targets can be muddy, and when I was there, no one wanted to trek out to the 300 yard target, especially through the tall grass and wet ground (when I was there). Sacramento's 300 is flat and clear.

What part of the bay area do you intend to move to?

Hope this helps.

Phil3. Figure how much clearance you want in the neck, that would usually be about 2/1000s, and the rest of the body, then get on the phone with one or more of the quality reamer cutters, Heinrickson, good luck there, or Dave Kiff at PT&G. Discus with them what bullet you plan on shooting. Be as specific as possible here so they can figure what the best freebore figure will be. Fact is its not a bad idea to call these guys right away and bend their ear for as much information as you can get. They've cut a lot of reamers and know more than you can imagine about your chamber needs. Especially the 6 BR/ Dasher these days. Then order a reamer. It's never a bad thing to have the reamer your rifle is chambered with. Its gonna cost somewhere around $150 and you can always sell it if you decide to change. This is part of the intrigue of building a rifle. The more you know about your chamber the better ammo you can make.
So Have Fun and shoot straight and far.

Excellent advice, the Internet is not a good place to decide on the best chamber/reamer.

AHEM! This forum isn't your normal Internet site. You'll get great advice here.
