Ticks

Did it bite you? Are you sure it is a wood tick? You may want to get tested for an array of tick-borne pathogens if it bit you, even if it is only a wood tick.

They are bad around here; I live close by (Reading area) and hunt northern Berks County. It's one of the many reasons I stop hunting off a bipod prone since those beasties are everywhere.

Just a heads up, I know someone that got Babesiosis from a tick bite in Chester county. It was some really bad stuff, required hospitalization.

We had hatch an early hatch in the California foothills. Found one on the pup a couple weeks ago with the classic bullseye.

Very simple.Gamehide tick clothes.Wife and I have been wearing them in the woods(Central Pa) for 4 years now. Not 1 tick. Before we were picking ticks every time we came back from daily walks. I have pulled a tick out every place you can imagine. It stopped instantly.

Yeah I've pulled 4-5 off me every year since a kid.its a jungle down here.

I'm avid turkey hunter and never thought much about it until one made lymph node swell up had to see doc and get meds had nasty oosing sore for months.pretty sure it was lone star tick

Now I treat all my clothes and spray down with bug dope..

Just remember it has to be on you for 24hrs before it can give you anything.it goes through 24hr feeding cycle then regurgitates into your bloodstream at end of feed cycle is how you get Lyme disease or lone Star disease.

Nasty little suckers

Unfortunately Lyme disease and lone Star stuff is more prevalent down here now than it was 10-20 years ago.still fairly rare but much more common

So basically check yourself thoroughly before showering and all is good.or every day if camping etc

Hate them things
I use the Horse strength Tractor Supply Stuff (Pyrethrin/Permethrin, one of those two)
Spray my clothes, my boots, my animals, myself etc
Last tick I had made me feel like I had the flu for a couple days
didnt know I had one on me
As soon as I got it out I felt like I was recovering within 2 hours suddenly

I was bitten about 10 years ago. Blood tests were negative, I was lucky because I hunt in a high Lyme disease area. The Doctor told me that even the common wood ticks can carry other nasty pathogens so it always best to get tested if bitten. The timing of the testing is important since one has to allow for the nominal incubation period.

We have loads of ticks in this area, I treat my clothes and spray when I get out of the truck. I still get loaded with ticks sometimes and I get several bites every year. I have been lucky so far but I know several people in this area who’ve been severely affected by tick borne diseases.

Tons of them here in KY, best thing I've found is peppermint oil. A drop will make them get off you and a tablespoon of peppermint oil mixed in a spray bottle of water will keep them off you if you spray your pants and shoes from the knee down.

We have been wearing Under Armour Heat Gear top and bottom in white under our outer clothes. It is tight enough to keep the buggers from crawling underneath, and being white, it is easy to see the ticks and remove them.

Permethrin is the answer. Spray the openings of clothing (outdoors) and allow to dry. Was the sales rep for a company with products known as Permanone and Duranon in the middle 1980's. They were the exact same formulation with .05% Permethrin. The product will kill ticks for 6 weeks and 2 machine washings. Sawyer and Repel now offer Permethrin spray. I would not consider going into the woods or grassy fields without treated clothing. It is THE answer for ticks.

You can get ticks in the winter they are very resistant to cold. Just a tiny bit of research.
Didn’t know that. I can say that the number observed where I live drops significantly in the colder months. But I’ll be watching closer now, especially on our wire hair terrier!

Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever carrying ticks don't require that long. 2 hours or less. Unfortunately, I learned that from experience.

Other diseases can be transmitted in as little as 15 minutes. Do some research.
