Thunder Basin Grasslands

Anyone been to Thunder Basin Grasslands this spring? With the gas prices, thought I would check with the Ranger office in Douglas. Gal who answered the phone indicated the PD crop was pretty poor this year. I've not always found that they have the straight of it, so any eyewitnesses that can verify or refute that assessment?

Better check the part we always went to was closed for shooting pdogs from may to September last year because they were poisoning them and they did a good job

There Is currently a forest service ban order on shooting prairie dogs on federal lands in the grasslands.

I saw them ban shooting when they reintroduced the black tailed ferret. Is this ban something new or has it been happening the last few years?

There is an emergency order in effect til August 15, but it is only on a particular area, not the entire grasslands, and only on federal land.

There were 3 management option plans, I believe the Biden administration choose one with "emergency management" options for Federal land only. The grasslands are not all Federal, this allowed them to of course stop shooting/hunting if dog numbers drop below" requirement" numbers(due to any reason including weather). 2021. Next step will be access limitations.
