My life is over.

The new neighbor bought his three kids, ages eight, nine, and eleven, all boys one of those portable basketball hoop sets. From about 5pm until dark, they are out at sidewalk's edge shooting hoops. They do not make many, but they are relentless. Ten P.M. or so, the Dad comes home from work, and plays with a couple of his buddies from work until about 1am. They are also terrible shots, but as determined as the kids. This is one of the sets with the basket only eight foot high. They are latino, and Dad, if he stands up straight; might be five feet tall. They seem to be nice people, but six weeks after the install, I am beginning to pray Winter comes soon...

Omg , I just don't have enough time to say how much people suck... I play many games besides shooting for money... And you see what we deal with just trying to drive to the grocery store....

I feel for you Idaho, been through the same. Seems like my neighbors kids hoop drew kids from all over my small town, sometimes there would be 8-10 boys out there making that irritating noise for hours on end.

Simply threaten to buy his kid a brand new snare drum or tuba. I suspect an early curfew on the use of the basketball hoop sets will be enacted in short order.

If you live in a neighborhood in a town shutdown time for the noise is usually 10pm......If that's the case where you live, just let him know. It won't affect the kids....Hopefully the adults will go back to what they were doing Pre-Hoop.

Regards
Rick

I am not a basket ball fan but I watched Gonzaga in one of the finals and observed their penalty shots. I then watched our next door neighbor kid, about 11 YO shoot hoops and the kid often gets 8 out of 10, much better than Gonzaga. He appears to be a smart kid and I hope he gets a good scholarship instead of some long term financially debilitating student loan. With more physical activity such as running and weights he is on the way to being a extraordinary athlete. To be good at something takes drive and lots of work.

You guys sound like the old fart back when I was a kid! Be thankful there out side and not in there room on there iPad all day.
Been trying to get my Grandson interested in shoot but I guess it's not in the stars.
How do you think some people feel when you are out shooting? I have a neighbor that has a Muscle car with very loud pipes, do I complain HELL NO! He is a great guy and never says anything when I'm out shooting in the back yard. If you have ear plugs put them in and be a good neighbor.

I believe all of us humans are hard wired to be pissed off about something. Completely understand your anger about the situation next door, but my advice is to get over it. Nine years ago, upon retirement I was at a crossroads. I found many things to be upset over or not. I am not perfect, but I try. Sometimes you just have to let go. Life will never be Utopia. Today I live in a neighborhood that is transforming it self from a single family, homes owned, to something else. The lawns are no longer well kept, snow not regularly shoveled, loud motorcycles, and plenty of parties. I have a day care next door and I care for my own grand daughters daily. I am a neat freak. Try to blend that with a 4 and 8 year children running around your house. Friend, a little basketball in your life, count your blessings. Being miserable is a choice. Currently I spend most of my time taking care of others and very little shooting. One time I shot 4 to 5 times per week. Now not so much. Spend more time writing about my life, than doing. But if you ask me, I consider myself blessed.

Kids like to move, most of em, and they can be loud, imperfect annoying awesome little creatures. At least they are not not playing loud music, etc!
I bought a condo in NYC years back - saved up and my first ownership. (sold long ago) Turned out, the building was directly over a subway line, and it was an old
loft building with zero insulation. 2nd floor...I could time the local and express trains-what a racket! Like every 6 minutes. and the floor shook. Bugged the heck out of me, but after a few months, I didn't even notice. :)

Install a motion detection high intensity flood light, set the sensitivity low and the light duration as short as you can. OR, get a huge dog that barks and jumps and chain him as close to them as possible. Find what little comfort you can in annoying them back. OR, just ignore it.

Is there a local or state noise ordinance? In Ohio it's from midnight to 6am.

Ear plugs? Another good thing about shooting is I have plenty of ear plugs and I think about wearing them in places where most people wouldn’t. I ride a bus to work most days and I sit in the back where it’s less crowded but noisy, but I’m plugged. I commute to another city a few times a month in a company Gulf Stream and it’s not that loud, but it’s even better wearing plugs. Besides, I can hear my tinnitus better that way.
