Last Fall I was leaving work at the pharmacy when I received a call from my friend George Coleman from Mt. Vernon, Ky. He knew I was looking for another Viper SS and he said that Thud has just posted a Viper SS action in the Accurate Shooter classifieds. Well, they are unavailable from Stiller
right now and they are scarce as hen's teeth. I thought about it on my way home and I was afraid
someone was going to post sold while I was debating and I would be sick if I let it get away. So before I lost it I made the plunge and hit the button and posted SOLD-PM SENT. I was still sweating the possibility that someone might have already bought it by PM. But withing 15 minutes Thud was in contact and confirming the deal.
Thud told me that if I was interested he had the stock that went with the action. I asked what type stock and to my amazement it was a Robertson F-Class which I had been looking for and are also no longer made and scarce as hen's teeth. I have one on my other Viper SS and it is my favorite stock. He sent a few pics and I took the stock.
I had a used 7 mm barrel with clam shell muzzlebrake also bought off accurate shooter classifieds.
Tim Claunch in Memphis attached the 284 to the Viper SS and she looked great and was begging to go to the range today. I found my seating depth and loaded ten rounds of 180 hybrids on top of RL-17 and meet Shayne at the range. Conditions were less than ideal with temps in lower 30's and snow flurries in the area. Windy with a cold front moving in. Before I took my first shot I told Shayne that this barrel might be his in about ten minutes.
NOT

The used barrel was clean and bare of Boron Nitride. Notice my first shot was low with no BN. Second shot was a little higher and laid down a little more BN.
Now with a little boron nitride laid down look at shots 3, 4, and 5. I am definitely pleased and Shayne missed out on the barrel.

Next 5 rounds went downrange to the 800 yard plate. 3 sighters to warm barrel up a little and I dialed in the March and last two went four inches just off the one inch bulls eye.

White Shehane fiberglass Tracker is Shayne's Engraved scroll work long action Rem. 700 Dasher with a 7 Twist Lilja. He shot it out to 1,000 yds today but did not have the MOA's to go further.

To distinguish this VIPER SS from it's twin I guess I will name this one after George and call it BIG GDOG.
The twin

First Viper SS is a left port with a Davidson rail that I put a picatinney conversion rail on.
Second Viper SS is a right port with a integral picatinney rail on top which I much prefer.
