Throating?

If i were to add some length to the throat of my rifle, as to shoot heavier bullets which i like to do, what size reamer should i use, as we have an abundance im my shop, and i dont feel like ordering this reamer for one job, or renting one, either...

it's a .30-06 reamed with a PT&G reamer

Critter Capper:

I have .22, 6mm, .25, 6.5mm, 7mm, and 30cal piloted throating reamers each is .0005 over bore diameter, example .3085), and ground with a 1.5 degree lead. I have nine different pilots larger and nine pilots smaller for variences in the rifling diameter each is .0002 difference in size. There is nothing more important than throat alignment. If it is not done with the chamber reamer it must be done with a piloted throating reamer to get it done right. You might talk with Dave Kiff at PT&G he might give you more insite on the subject.

I have been fortunate to have lived around several BR smiths that talk that language and you are right on this. My smiths that all follow what you said are Gene Deloney, Kurt von Epp, Bob Sutton, Stu Harvey, Mike Sosenko. I will do this as I learn to smith.
