Over the last forty years or so,I have cut hundreds of throats with a separate reamer when chambering and have extended throats on as many factory barrels. The only issue I have run into is when the original chamber was eccentric. I have been unable to come up with a way to cut a throat to match a crooked chamber. I have a half dozen 308 Match rifles. Four have chambers which were cut with reamers with an integral throater, one was cut with a no-throat reamer and throater, and one had the throat extended. The best shooter is the one which was cut separately but none shoot badly. I run the throaters in the lathe and the depth is determined by watching the graduations on the handwheel of the tailstock.
