Throat length??

What's the "shortest throat" length any of you have on your 6BR chamber? Thinking of keeping the bullet weight at 80gr. and under.
Would like to jam 55s ansd still be able to work with 80s??
Got a Shilen that the throat length has moved out .015 to .020 after about 200 rounds.
Need a shorter throat. What are you using? All opinions welcome and appreciated. Thanks. Mike.

NorCalMike,
Don't tell me this. I had a reamer made with .080 lead and 1/2Deg throat because that is 600yd shooters said that is what they needed for 105gr bullets in their 6BR's. And when I tried to reach the rifling I didn't have much of the bullet in the case. I have sent the reamer back for a regrind. Im having it ground with a .060 lead and a 1 1/2deg throat. And hoping I can seat 95gr bullets and still have the bullet touch the rifling and have it still in the neck .. Art

Art: From the looks of things, seating the 55s to "jam" won't work without having the 80s stuffed way down in the case.
Still working on the "correct" lead/throat length.
Just can't have your cake and eat it too!
I figure the shorter I make the throat the better in the long run. Just havn't come to a decision yet! Still need more input!

Mike, as you may or may not remember my Pac-Nor 1 in 8" has a .070 and 80 Berger's work great, they fill the neck 90% when about .015 in to the lands, but I cant jam the lands with any thing lighter than something in the 75g FB size, and still have much in the case.
On the other hand, I can load up to 105g with no problems. This was a difficult decision for me as well.
It might look something like these three choices, 50 to 80g, 70 to 90g or 80 to 105g. But just a guess.
Mike..

The 55s won't have much left in the neck if the barrel is throated for the 80s to 90s. I like the idea of a bullet seated way down to the neck/shoulder junction. The way my Shilen is throated,I can't reach the lands with 55s but anything heavier is able to be jammed. Even at that the 55s are still accurate. I think for an ideal setup the 55s should be left out of the running as far as a jam, but still "very" shootable! As the throat wears you should still be able to jam your bullets so my plan is to go short from the start.
I'll end up with two seprate rifles. One for the lighter bullets like the 60s to maybe 90s and another for anything heavier!
