As a diamond aficionado, I have quite a few loops. And I use them just like Dave. I look straight down vertical in a barrel facing a white piece of paper. I’t is amazing how you can see even the slightest deviations.

The one I use most is an objective lens out of a cheap scope. Here is a picture through it of my “zero freebore” 30BR in one of my used barrels. I think it is around 2x

for a really great loop, I use the ocular lens Out of an old Leupold BR 36.

By the way. Quite a few times I have gone with friends who wish to purchase a diamond. Mainly just to be sure they are getting what is advertised in order to avoid buyers remorse.
