why are you second guessing? im doing the same exact thing minus the gain twist. However the gain twist is an amazing thing too.

That’s a good question, I’m confident it will be good, 5R is just something I have not have used at this point, and I’m a skeptic of new to me stuff.

My only gripe is how picky they are on speeds/feeds/pressure. The end result is incredible... so I guess it's worth it.

Just curious why you don't like carbide? They do behave a bit differently. Very sharp and not much feed back.

@DaveTooley - I take it back. Did a chamber with a carbide tonight. With the flush system, I can do the bulk of a chamber in what feels like 90 seconds.

Right now my favorite barrel for a 6mm is probably the 4g gain twists I have been getting from Bartlien. But I have actually grown to prefer 5r for anything bigger.

Bartlein over Krieger? I know you’re fond of Krieger barrels, especially their 6’s.

What makes your prefer 5R for the larger calibers? Thanks

I wouldn't say i prefer one brand over another, theres a few that put very consistent work. Krieger and Bartlien are in that top tier. Lately Bartlien seems to have some excellent steel and I prefer a gain which Krieger wont do. But do not take this as a preference, I order batches from a few always looking to luck into good ones. I think I have provided my customers with more good barrels by spreading the orders around honestly. If I find someone with good steel I order a bunch more and hope to get more of it. But that doesn't mean I will. I'm always trying to do anything I can to get these guys the best stuff. On the bigger stuff I have got better velocity with the 5r. I can bump up the groove diameter on a 4 or 6 and get that extra speed too but that's special order when a 5r off the shelf works. At least with the Bartliens.
