Throat carbon removal ????

They are the ones! BUT you will see the "SUPER INTENSIVE" ones if you scroll down on the link, those are the ones I was referring to. I used 3 on the jag. The "Top or Entry" one needs to be one size down or you will NOT get them into the bore...
REMEMBER: If you buy those pellets, you will need to get the "special" jag specifically for them..

Thank you.

I use the standard felt pellets. Fit is about the same as snug'ish patch so not mega tight. Just a comparison to the afore mentioned INTENSE pellets.

the carbon on my muzzle brakes is right up there with the "can't even" get it off with a power wire brush or scraping. Many sessions with them in a plastic bag and wipeout will eventually get it. But 30 seconds in a container with oven cleaner and they are cleaner than new. Don't now about in the chamber as I don't have a bore scope but I would bet it would work presto. Also for those engine valves.

One of my fellow LD shooters recommended a product called "TM" from Sinclair, any one know or tried it ?

TM is for Tom Meredith and he makes a few products and they are pretty good. I've tested them and they work better than average and used them for a few years. I've since moved on to BoreTech Eliminator and IOSSO. The combination of the two every 50-120 rds through the barrel will keep it clean.

i have the felts and find they work no better than a good jag and patch.

the parker hale jag with a patch wrapped around it with boretech C4, a little soak time followed up with another patch with a little losso paste short stroking that throat area should remove any carbon ring.

consistent use of boretech C4 should keep throat carbon at bay.

Didn't do squat for the carbon streaks in the throat of my barrels. JB, Iosso, Boretech Eliminator, C4, etc. Even tried using a chamber plug and filling the bore with C4. Nada. Waiting on an order of Witches Brew.

I've recently learned how badly that I need a bore scope. I've been using C4 and Eliminator, and trusting it when the patches come clean. At the recent F class national, I had problems with my mid range rifle on the first day of competition. Pressure issues and pierced primer with a mild load. Had to take my bolt apart in the middle of my string, using a shoelace! My scores suffered very badly. I later had someone check it with a bore scope. Yes carbon ring. I soaked it with C4 again, scrubbed and patched until no more black. Then started scrubbing with Iosso. Lots more black! I'm back to scrubbing it again today, but I don't have a way to see if I'm getting anywhere with it. Don't trust chemical cleaners to do the job!

i found my beginings of a carbon ring after purchasing a cheap lyman borescope. now i can monitor and prevent it

i also was advised on this forum to use the parker hale jag. great advise. the best jag i have found yet for short stroking carbon rings out of the throat.

The black coming out isn't necessarily carbon. As an example... you can scrub with JB until the cows come home, and the patches will *always* come out black. Every time. That ain't just carbon that's getting removed... hence the frustration danger with letting the carbon build up and get glazed over to where normal solvents/techniques won't touch it. The process of mechanically scouring out the carbon runs the risk of also removing *metal*.

My process is to use a 18” bronze loop rod with a bronze brush slightly larger than the chamber neck. I just twist the rod using a carbon bore cleaner. This is done about every 40-50 rounds. Using a bore scope, I stop twisting when the “ring” is a faint grey. I don’ believe that a bronze brush has any impact on the accuracy of a steel barrel but a carbon ring does have an impact on consistency at the target.
This adaptor keeps the brass rod straight.

Monte, I do understand that the paste will turn black from metal contact. I guess that my point was, that I don't know when to stop until I have a bore scope.
