Threading barrel with hand tools

Couldn't you take a file, and file the last 1/2 or 3/4s inch of the barrel to the major diameter of the thread size, and then carefully start the die with one of those nice speed squares you get at the depot. The die is tapered so it doesn't cut 100 percent threads on the side you start with, so when the die hits the shoulder you would have to reverse it to get the threads cut full all the way to the shoulder. I think if you had a good pair of glasses and were careful you could do it.

Only one person cautioned him about turning the barrel first before installing a brake. Brakes are not threaded to fit the OD of the barrel. He needs to keep in mind that it will have to be turned to the major pitch diameter before threading.
Some people may have caught it but just think the notion of threading a muzzle with a die wasn't worth posting on, as it is NOT...unless to simply say, "don't do it." Merely having to ask the question disqualifies anyone from doing a brake installation...on anything. If he or anyone, is told repeatedly not to do something, yet they insist...Let em' do it.

My guess? "Oh crap, I just dropped the half nut on the wrong line". Threading job gone bad.:( Hmm, how to fix.

Just break out the portaband and take off a couple.of.inches and start again

Wanted.a short barrel anyway.

Do the crown with my forsters deburring tool. Crowns are overrated anyway.

Or just use the Rigid pipe threader like Gundoktr suggested.

I have had enough of this crap.
Just sweat a copper adaptor on the barrel and be done with the threading crap. Just screw the muzzle bake, silencer, tuner on to the copper plumbing. Why make a mountain out of a mole hill?
That's what I always do. Send me your e-mail and I'll send pix.
