Thoughts on Sinclair Lightweight Rest?

I need a front rest that can pull double duty with load development from a bench and can also be used in mid range F Open matches (attending my first match in Oct!).

My budget is limited, i need to stay under $200.

Like many, I've been looking at the Caldwell Rock BR and have read all the mixed reviews/feedback on them. Overall the Rock BR i think would do the job for me but I wanted to see if there was anything else in the same price range that would be a better alternative.

So it looks like the Sinclair lightweight rest might fit the bill. It is much lighter then the Rock BR and it looks like I would have to buy a front bag with it but it does come in under $200.

Does anyone have experience with these lightweight rests?

Thanks

They are pretty lame imo. For what they cost. I would not want some thing that light anyway. I bet it would jump all over the bench. A nice cast sinclair with windage top sold on the classifieds here a week ago. I think around 250 ish. I would watch the classifieds for a little and pick up something with some weight.

jimbo88mm: zfastmalibu is right. Go with a heavier weight rest. My Sinclair Generation 2 weighs 17 pounds, heavy enough to be very stable on the bench, but not too heavy to easily move around, from the car to the bench.

The Caldwell Rock BR may be your best choice if you need to stay within that price range. At 13# it should be good on the bench or ground for F/Open.

The other choice would be a used Sinclair, Hart, etc.

I am poor too. Budget only means you have to wait and save more. If you can get a little more cash together will get a much better rest. The Caldwell is ok, but the windage mechanism is sloppy. You wont regret buying quality. Shoot off a couple 2x4s until you save up, haha.

I added a 1/2" steel plate to an elcheapo lightweight rest. I'm not sure how well this photo will show the detail. I had the steel cut out and a hand hold cut into it. I brought it home and drilled & tapped the plate to bolt the rest solid to it. I then drilled and tapped the plate for the "feet". I purchased a used Sinclair windage top listed on this site and adapted it to the rest that I had. Not a ton of money invested and it works pretty well.

I've seen a few Cowan rest's for sale here for about $200-225. I have 2 and love them.

I had a Caldwell rock at first and agree it is too light weight. I thought about filling the underside of the legs with hot lead...but then found a heavy base at a local gunshop used for $40 and sold the Caldwell.
