Thinking of upgrading my caliper

Erik Cortina said:
I use one caliper for general measuring around reloading bench. The second one I keep my ogive comparator on it for measuring rounds base to ogive after being seated. And the third one I keep with my lathe.

That sounds like a familiar setup. I got tired of removing comparators as well and walking back and forth between my lathe and my bench, looking for a pair of calipers.

I had the same issue last year and ended up getting the Brown and Sharpe (Tesa) model 00530300

Brown & Sharpe Digital Caliper, Stainless Steel, Battery Powered, Inch/Metric, Standard Jaw, For Depth, Inside, Outside, Step Measurements, +/-0.001" Accuracy, 0.0005" Resolution, Meets IP67/DIN862 Specifications

I am very satisfied. wait for them to go on sale or hunt around for them elsewhere

So, scothar and thefitter have reading comprehension issues.

I said back at reply 18 on this thread that I had placed the order at Amazon and it should be delivered tomorrow.

Not sure what you are referring to. I only responded to you directly once.

I remember helping my dad move and he showed me a red cased 6" Starrett dial caliper that the previous owner had left behind. He asked me what it was and I said " I don't know... can I have it?"
I have been using it nearly daily for 30 years, the finest measuring device on Earth!

Glad your's lasted that long. I bought a really nice dial Starrett (not cheap) a few years ago that also came in a red case. Lasted a few years and took a dump so I sent her in for repairs. That cost me around $30 some odd and after repairs the new dial and settings lasted about three weeks before going bonkers AGAIN, simply measuring cases. At that point, I had over $100 in a "top rated" company's caliper. The repair outfit wanted to charge me again for fixing it a second time so I told them to take a hike. Bought a nice $32 caliper that works ever bit as good as the Starett. But since I happen to also own a Mitoyoto Ball mic, I decided to buy that 6" Electronic Mitoyoto that one of the members on this thread provided the link for and got it on sale yo boot. No offense to Staretts, but I'm not feelin real confident in their reliability right now and I am overly careful with any of the measuring devices I have and use.

The Mitutoyo was delivered today and at first glance I am quite happy with it, it's smooth as silk and the LCD is quite readable. Thanks to everyone for their comments, and a special thanks to thefitter for providing the exact link.

Ben, I just barely reached Master and I doubt I will ever attain HM.

Or maybe I could say that I reached High Master in case measuring instead of LR in F-TR.

See you Sunday.
