Things you've over heard

I have a coworker with the Howa 6 Creedmoor in the photo. He said he loves the Creedmoor because “it won’t shoot past 200 yards” (his buddy told him that). I told him it can stay supersonic to 1,000 yards and beyond. I hope it sunk in. I hate to think of what could be beyond his target. He’s getting a divorce and needs cash. He asked me what it’s worth. I’m tempted to make a lowball offer, if for no other reason than to get it out of the hands of a dipsh*t.

I hear lots of off the wall statements, I chalk it up to ignorance.
And while ignorance is not a crime, (as opposed to stupidity), it should be cured before handling firearms.

I have seen some people that should know better pull stupid stunts.
several years ago, my brother in law wanted a new rifle, so we went up to that big gun store/gun range in North Houston, (Houstonians know the one), and picked out a Remington BDL in 7mm Mag. They had a deal on scopes, buy one and mounting it was free.

So we picked out a Leupold 6 1/2 to 20. Their “gunsmith” works in an are that has a big glass window, you can watch him at work.

He bolted the Leupold one piece mount, the one that has that interference dovetail fit in the front. He then installed the scope in the front mount and, just like a lug wrench, twisted it into place with the scope.

I immediately went to the salesman and told him what we just saw, and that was unacceptable,
He went and got the ”gunsmith” who stated it was no big deal, he did that all the time.

We demanded they get a new scope. I told him I did not need his “free installation”, I would take care of it.

I’m not sore if you call their actions ignorance, stupidity, or just didn’t care.

I've seen many rifles with the "Carter's Crunch" on the stocks haha. They tighten them down so hard in vises that they crunch the wood.

That’s pretty sad! I think even Leupold’s instructions say not to do that.

I was doing some load development at a local range while another gentleman was beside me doing some of the same. He comes over to ask me how much powder I'm using in my 30 nosler, and I tell him I'm running 81 grains of n570 with a 245 grain berger. He proceeded to grab a cartridge (which is a pretty full load) He goes on to say, I need to stuff about 4 more grains in there. He was shooting 300 prc and he told me he takes a ball powder (I forget what kind but he said its military pulldown he bought in bulk) and stuffs the case to the neck and compresses it with the bullet. He said there's no need to measure weight with ball powder because it will never blow up a case. I looked at his primers and cases and there was severe flattening/cratering as well as massive deep ejector marks. I told him of the signs and he said "pressure is your friend, you can really hotrod anything if you're not worried about something like pressure". Needless to say, it was just a wacky experience.
He is long for this world...LOL He Might get famous by making local 6'oclock news though..LOL..Big Boom.!!!!

I did exactly that on a desert muley doe in 1988 with my 7RM and 150gr BTs when hunting in the Taylor Peak region (near Allen Spring) SE of Ely NV. Sick with the flu and on my way back to camp to crawl into my sleeping bag one of my hunting buddies flagged me down. He had a buck tag and had spotted a pair of nice does. I didn't even want to get out of my truck, but, followed him to the spot. When he motioned me up and I saw the does standing on a ridgeline told him no way I could make that shot, too far. He convinced me otherwise and with no rangefinder, total swag on distance and uphill, I laid the horizontal cross hairs on her back and squeezed the trigger - she fell right where she stood. I cussed him the whole way up, he said he'd field dress, no way, I shot her, I'll dress her, but you can make the hike back to my truck and bring it up the draw in the ravine!

Bullet entered center of heart/lung zone between 2 ribs and out the back side same way cracking the two either side of exit hole. Her lungs, heart, & liver were just a jelled bloody mass - my first real experience with hyrdostatic shock. Rifle is a Savage 110, Simmons 4x32 (no s**t), load was 150gr NBTs, 60gr IMR4350 & CCI250s. Tires on my '72 F250 were 36" Super Swampers, I'm 5' 7" and with her pulled as high as we could get across the canopy I still had to hold her head up off the ground exit side is facing camera...

The next morning my hunting buddy shot a beautiful 4 x 3 Muley but I couldn't physically get out of my sleeping bag to help.
Its head it bent up..I think ya CHOKED it to death...LOL Good story!

Family gathering picnic out in the sticks I was sitting on picnic bench with a few of the younger guys and we were discussing deer hunting. Out in a field about 300 yards away, I noticed a few deer feeding, mentioned it to the them and said "There's a shot for you". One says "Yeah, if you had a Creedmoor". This was when the 6.5 was the only version. I said "I think I'll go get some of those deviled eggs".

Customer buys a "high end" 22 LR bolt gun. Doesn't buy any ammo.
Brings the gun back the next week complaining that it wont keep hits on a paper plate at 25 yards and when they do hit it looks like the are sideways.
Gun store owner, a Viet Nam era Marine, asked to see the ammo he was using.
.... wait for it.
It was 17 HMR.

When I was growing up my dad owned a gun shop. One time a guy came in with a 22 bolt gun he bought at a new big store that came to town. He wasn’t sure how to use it and wanted some advice so while dad was showing him how to load the detachable mag he questioned him if that was the right direction to put the shells in. Instead of listening to the explanation he kept being sure that was the wrong way (customer belived bullet should point at you instead of away) and the gunsmithing school graduate and shop owner was wrong. After my dad asked him if he wanted to bang the rim of a rim fire off the breech of his barrel while the bullet was pointed at his face, he kinda realized the right direction.

Be a friend and help the Dip out. And remember a sucker is born every 30 seconds. Jeff
