things worth doing, watching, reading

Agent Orange. I can go on for pages. A picture is worth a thousand words. This would be the least you can expect.
Four types of skin cancer. Over 75 operations on the forearms alone.

I turn 69 in a month. Just missed the draft - Viet Nam era. I never enlisted either, never wanting to be told what to do.

Life's been good, but my survival has been miraculous. My self discipline has always been poor, and my young life choices were absolutely retarded.

I've known for many years that the one thing that would have improved my life would have been a couple years of growth in the military.

I look at the videos of my fellow "baby boomers" protesting -- everything -- and I'm thinking, "yeah them too". It's no freaking wonder that so many of the youngins are clueless, lazy, medicated, rudderless, fools.

I say, hell yeah the draft would be a good thing. jd

Major Jimmy White, brother of Astronaut Ed White, lost over Laos in his F105
Very sad and interesting. So when you look him up you’ll see they say he was lost in South East Asia. That’s like saying someone was lost in Central America. They really don’t want to say Laos. I’ll tell you about Laos. Being ‘lost’ there is the same as falling into a black hole. I believe his (remains) was returned to the USA in 2018. He was ‘lost’ in 1969. Another American hero.

Here’s one of the problems Laos had.
If you know what it stands for I’m sorry.

Really sounds to me like a bunch of people don’t spend enough time with the young men in their lives and want Uncle Sam to straighten them out.

And, like the distinguished Sergeant Gump once said, that’s all I have to say…. About that.
I believe that the weak as you put it , will weed themselves out. Yes the breakdown of the family has been instrumental in many social problems. Their parents failed also.

I knew a man who physically survived the Bataan Death March, was a slave in a lead mine with a daily menu of a handful of rice and a fish head.
Once under a stressful situation I found out he spoke Japanese. 30+ years after WW II. I will never forget him.

I watched these historical documentary's also. For many years I like to seee the ones on the Bolshevik Revolution and the rise of Facism. I see many similarities to the last 30 + years of our history.

When we moved into quarters in 1956 as an almost 14yr old a group of about 5 guys my age came to our quarters. Jimmy White introduced himself and the rest of the guys. He said that the Jr. Jets football team was starting practice if I was interested and that Friday night the teenage club on the base was having a sockhop. Jimmy was the best, smartest, and charismatic person that I have ever met. We lost a great one.

I hope you attended that Friday night dance.

Can you clarify "lets weed out the weak "
If you put them in the Military
Nature will do it well enough on her own by toughening them up
by offering useful knowledge and survival skils.
You ever had to pass a PT test? A Qualifications test? anything like that?
It wont happen if all you do is play with a fidget spinner or computer all day on the couch
-----------------
No offense if you have a child whose a teen or less but
They can't even add basic math in their head these days
by the time all of us are gone
our next generation won't have anybody to push the youth of today
Push them to raise the bar, to excel, to offer higher expectations

Watching The Pacific for the 10th time. Excellent. The more I watch it, the more I like it.
Is that the name of the program ... The Pacific ?

What station/channel/service is it on ?

I would like to watch it. My Dad was in Okinawa and Saipan.

We went to those Islands last year to see where Pop landed and fought.

What branch of the military were you in ?
Your last paragraph is exactly what the left wants.

I'm a member of our State's Military
Which I like because we can't be Federalized and forced to fight a political war
We train strictly for the defense of our own State
------------
And yeah the Left seems to be advancing with great strides (because people are generally lazy)

I think the draft would be good - but ONLY if the people who start these forever wars put their name in the pot too.
My Captain, and another units Captain we often train together with
are always on the field with us, instead of sitting in the Officers tent.
No bogus calls being made while they're watching safe from a distance
Which is the way it should be

They can't do some public service?
In the interst of respectful discourse, I will respond that I believe that every man and woman is created in the image of God. Before Him they are co-equal. One is not better, or worse, than the other.

That said, I believe that when it comes to war fighting, men should do it. Roles, and Goals.

I think men should be chivalrous, and that the highest calling is to protect our ladies and our children.

I think that such a view properly places the value of our girls where it belongs.

I do not think that diminishes a woman at all. Some ladies will think otherwise. In response, I would simply say that I do not think we expect enough of our men.
