Thin necked brass.....

Good grief...I have about 100 LC '02 223 cases formed & sized for my new 20 tactical...The bullets can be pushed into the fully sized cases by hand..This can not be good...On two lots of fed brass I had some [maybe 50%] just as loose...I did a few remington commercial about the same..50 50...One lot of WCC '03 seems right on...Anyone ever run into such a problem before ?? The bullets are right on .204 The expander ball is .203...mike in ct

Try this-
Re size a case with no expander ball and compare the OD of the sized case with those that were sized with the expander. Let us know what your results are.

The LC 02 is .228 to .229 only about ten percent go over that demension, those over that demension will work...The federal brass ...Just abit larger.... some go .229 some say 50 % will work...I found WCC'03 will work reliably..some of those loaded will go .230 .231....The expander ball is right on .203..the bullets .204..I pulled the expander/decapping stem & tried that trick...didn't help...Looks like I'm going to have to sort these by neck thickness, seems silly...I never ran into anything like this before...mike in ct..just an afterthought..any of you guys running Lapua 223 brass ??? I'd like to try 3 of those before ordering a whole box full

Put a bill in that half box...I'll square up with you...I did 100 WCC 03 tonight..I'm taking those primed cases to the range with my measure, powder, press & seating die...this will work out..I'll find the best load faster & with less waste...I'm in uncharted waters here..not much info on the 20 tac...That & I've never range loaded before..This should be fun...The New Used Nightforce 8 x 32 in talley QD mounts [thanks to don at long range supply.. used scope, factory dated inspection sticker 4-11-06 looks new]is on the clean bedded Sako varmint sporting a Pac-nor 1 in 11 twist barrel...The trigger on that gun is sweet..I'm sure this thing is going to one hole group on its first outing...well maybe not one hole..but a decent group...I waited a long time for this rig...mike in ct

Take a look...thanks for all the help here...you guys are great, mike in ct

guess I should have labeled them..dope I am...At any rate ...some of that LC '02 is working nicely...thats the stuff I turned just at the neck shoulder junction...I'm going to employ that technique on a few other military cases that have decent capacity..If you read about my latest range adventure..The 20 Tac is coming along..Slow but I'm finding my way..There is not much data out there..Thanks to all that do share here..I'm building some info I can work with..It would help If I spell out what I hope to achieve with this cartridge...I'd like to find a load using a powder that meters smoothly thru my RCBS measure so I can assemble .5 MOA ammo in bulk to use on prairie dogs..the 39 gr or 40gr bullet would be best for longer ranges..So I'm looking into the following powders Benchmark, H-335..VV 140 ?? any data on those powders would be appreciated...mike in ct
