The sound of a gong, why is it such a great sound?

Kool...

But what the hell are Canadian Geese doing in Kiwiland ???
Its called Colonisation (spelling?). Get people to settle where you just claimed as yours. Then you have to supply food / industry, and sport (for the rich). That is why we have rabbits, hares, possums, red deer, fallow deer, sika deer, Tahr, chamois, mallard duck, canada geese....I like it, some folks think they all need to be wiped out, as not native. I'm in the all for control of populations, not erradication. But I'm going off the topic of my post. Like to say, they just got lost.

Great story. I concur with the "Instant gratification" responses...

You mentioned all the game animals and forgot to mention the salmon fishing....!

How are the gun laws?

There is great satisfaction in BP Silhouette hearing the "ring" from hitting steel especially when coming out of recoil and seeing the light change on your ram as it falls and then that sound of lead on steel.

Sorry, not big on fishing. Also great trout (rainbow, brown) and ocean fishing. Gun laws hmmm. No big deal about suppressors, if you want one, buy one, make one, make 10. Different categories of licence, "everyday plain jane" covers bolt actions, standard shot guns, semi auto rifles (max. 7 round mag centre fire, 15 rimfire), doesn't cover pistols, full auto fire arms. You have to meet extra requirements for those. Good for 10 years, then you have to get checked out again. Very basic, might have missed a lot of details.

The only thing better than banging steel on a nice sunny day is banging steel in heavy fog, or light rain. The days when you can barely make out your target but the sound is upon you instantly when you hit, the air is so heavy the sound doesn't seem to rise.
I understand the desire to shoot tiny groups on paper, and I appreciate the things that come from it, but it is not for me.

I like auditory effects but visual effects provide much gratification also. For example having a speedy bullet hit a soggy wet target and see blast of water droplets emerge and hear a somewhat muffled, WHOP gives some satisfaction. This gives rise to having a combo - rifle, load, scope - that provides an ability to spot hits. Paper is OK for fussing with loads but it seems like every time I get a bunch of shots real close or even in the same hole I screw up and make a hole far away from the rest.

I guess this might not be considered "precision shooting".

Well as an update, stretched a little further to 400m. Due to restriction of safe area to shoot. I'm going to find somewhere I can get to 500m plus. Anyway on my own this time, and only took 3 shots. All three hit, first a little low and left, then after elevation adjustment and better wind read. The last two were slightly left, 1 1/4 " apart. I smiled and stopped.....why ruin it. Just bought a rangefinder, so no more poor estimation on living targets, WooHoo.

Two years ago at our WV property and had steel targets out. I have a Thompson Contender 14 inch barrel chambered in 338 Whisper (7 BR case necked up) loaded with Nosler 300 gr HP Competition bullet @ 1040 fps. I let 3-4 guys shoot it at 280 yd plate and told them hold top of the T post. Bullet dropped another 2 1/2 feet! They all turned around laughing and said just when I thought I missed “CLANG”
