Think of a suppressor on a very large scale and this will be the cheapest solution I believe so far stack tires oriented vertically in line think the baffles of a suppressor if you shot through Say a tube of 10 tires each one will help mitigate the noise externally I don’t believe it is a good idea or effective at all to try to contain your noise where you are of course first off it would be very rough on your ears and also not very effective

It was build to reduce noise to communities nearby. The vehicle pictured is the M109G 155mm self-propelled howitzer. The side expansion chambers will be to accommodate the blast of the cannon’s muzzle brake.

Every time I see that photo, I have to wonder if the person/people who designed that weren't laughing hysterically then entire time.

In answer to your question, I don't know but to my very limited hearing, the sonic crack seems to be coming from down range. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I will answer that question.

If you have ever pulled targets , you will know when the "sonic crack" takes place.

I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to build a .22LR version of your benchrest rifles for practice. You could shoot subsonic ammo with or without a moderator. I know it's not a perfect solution but would get you the trigger time.

How would you muffle the sonic crack of the supersonic bullets? Maybe that's not a problem depending on the distance to the nearest neighbor.

I gotta ask , since I didn't see it mentioned. Where are you located? If it's cold, do you plan on heating the shed? If so, be prepared for lots of mirage when you open the window from the shed while the heat is on!!

Does anyone have a picture of what they used for a shooting tube? My neighbor just complained about the noise from my shooting and I'm hoping a tube will mitigate the noise issue. However he's only about 150 -175 yards away so I don't know if it's possible. I'm think that the crack of the bullet shouldn't be that much of an issue as I will be aiming away from him.
Neighbors are a PITA!

They had 2-3 of them in a row that must have measured about 20 feet or so. I have no idea where you would buy them, but they seemed to work well.

One range near here has had neighbour problems. Mainly a pistol club. For the rifles they constructed square tubes to cover the muzzle, lined with mineral wool, from 3/4 treated ply. each around 4ft long and 2 1/2 ft square Works well.

Those pipes are very heavy and difficult to place not to mention expensive I would suggest the corrugated black plastic culvert pipe covered with dirt in addition to my first post about using tires.

Do they make plastic culvert pipe that large? I think those concrete pipes were about 6-7 feet circumference!!!! I like the idea of the tires as most shops have to pay money to get rid of them. The only problem is you'd need an awful of of them to really silence effectively.

I wear ear pro in the pits too and I agree. Guys who say it isn't loud are inadvertently admitting to have considerable hearing loss.

I'd like to restate a previous post: don't forget to provide strong ventilation for your solution. You do not want to be breathing the gases coming from the muzzle in any concentration and that becomes a concern quickly in an enclosed space without strong airflow to drive the gases away from you!

OK,first.... you didn't hear this from me. I'll deny all culpability,naa naa.

I took concrete reinforcement wire and rolled it into a tube. Didn't measure it but heck,it's about 32" inside diameter. It's as long as the stuff is wide. Around the outside got wrapped with plain ole fiberglass insulation(no vapor barrier). Using tie wire to attach to the "tube". Takes longer to explain,than do. Around the insulation,I put 2 or 3 layers of HF moving blankets.

Here's the "trick" part...

The thoughts of lighting off a hipowered rig inside this POS is gonna do what? Yup,that insulation is gonna take a beating. So before even shooting the first round through it....... loaded up a spraygun with some cheapa$$ lacquer and applied two coats to the inside. Think your mom's hairspray...... which is EXACTLY what popped into my pea brain. Anyway,hung the whole thing up and it's what I shoot through on our,very modest indoor pistol range.

There's a cheap fan that blows from shooting side out,that keeps it clear. It works amazingly well. Certainly cheap enough. I've had it for a cpl years and no,there ain't gonna be any pics.

Yes but I am thinking of my benchrest rifles, so cans are a no go.

So cans effect accuracy? Or other issues? Haven’t used one but have some in “jail”. These are for other hunting rifles but they are custom and accurate as well.
